Quicken is very good. Also GEORGE can do a lot of it for you, then just give it to your accountant.
Or you can look through the lal paper or post office window. You can usually find a retired book keeper who wants some extra money advertising in them...

Mr H

We use window cleanerpro at the min which seems to be able to track everything, nice layout and pretty easy to use once all the data is entered

George should be more than enough for you and your accountant.
George has free updates / advice.

Window clean pro good, but waiting for new addition. You have to have the invoice number it gives you not your own which is a pain, also they dont run numerically for the job which is how i do mine.

Waiting for new version soon hopefully, also its a pain when its lost , make sure you have regular back-ups

I find Sage an absolute nightmare!

Its all to do with the double entry bookeeping method it uses. Once you get it right its excellent (but expensive to buy)...it will sail through a VAT return.

Entries cannot be deleted once they're entered - you need to use the double entry principal and assign a destination for the deletion!!! all very complicated.

The only reason I use it is because my accountant runs Sage and asked me to run the same programme (keeps his workload and my bill down).

If you use Sage its well worth going on a course with your local college to get to grips with it. Usually only a couple of evenings for two weeks but its enough for you to get your head round it.

dave. you can delete entries in. sage. goto maintenance page. whilst it will still appear in your audit trail, it doesn't appear in your nominal or financials. sage is def the best n easiest to use of the professional accounting programs, but is over the top for most sole traders. we use v12 financial controller because of the stock control and projects manager

Hi Simon

I use Sage Instant Accounts but I would recommend Simply Books for a beginner as its much more forgiving of mistakes than Sage.  I think you can download a free trial too.

Cheers

Hi Gary,

The new version of WCP is available (www.windowcleanerpro.com) and has the invoice number issues corrected so that you can have your own formats and also overwrite if needed.

Thanks
