Mr Gleam,  have you heard of three way links, reportedly better than reciprocal links.

Spencer, is that when you've got 2 sites and 1 site links to both of yours?

Art,

Its when you exchange links with owners of multiple sites, you give him two free inbound links for two of his sites for example, he will give you a trade off two non reciprocal links on another two sites that he owns. Inbound one way links supposedly being better than recips.

I have done a little bit of reading about it recently.

I have never been able to fully understand it Mark, when I check our sites, links with Google seem to pop up in a random way.  ???

I am confused i think i will go out and buy SEO for Dummies or maybe check out Ad words. What sort of monthly budget would you need for say a 10 Mile radius adwords campaign?

Google stopped displaying all your links some time ago but...

https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/siteoverview?pli=1

use that to find them.

forget 3 way links, the result if any is minuscule

3 way links are, as i think has already been explained but i`ll have a go too.

You link your site to someone elses, they then link back to you from a different site that they own. Therefore creating a one way link for you and a one way link for them. As one way links are better for your rankings, then yes 3 way linking is better.

Plural terms need to be entered as separate keywords.

The reason it shows more links from yahoo than it does from google is because yahoos algorithims are not as complex as googles, google is the biggest search engine because it uses such complex algoriths so as to ensure that it only returns the most relevant search results to it`s customers, it therefore does not return as many search results, as the less relevant ones have been filtered out by the algorithms. Where as yahoos less complex algorithms filter out less and therefore return more results.

What you have just described is a triangular link,  a->c and b->a, you can also do  a->b, b->c and c->a, its gamesmanship, so if you value your rankings why risk being kicked off or receiving a penalty when getting the no1 spot with the right methods is straight forward? Dont forget a one way link is not always better, it depends where its coming from.

Mr Gleam I dont get your last paragraph? In the old days in google you could find all your links by typing link:http://www.cleanitup.co.uk for example, in an effort to stop people manipulating rankings and caring so much about links it simply stopped showing them and just shows a selection now(there still in google), showing links is a separate thing to showing search results.
