Female hozelocks
« on: February 22, 2008, 05:12:06 pm »
The female hozelock connector on the outlet of my Trolley seems to have started leaking.

What is the best brand around to avoid this?

Just seems to be a waste of water, albeit a small amount, over the course of the day though it probably adds up to 10 litres or so.

I'd prefer it not to be the case.

i dont know how tthe freedom trolley is set up but i had a female outlet on trolley then female on reel and dual male adapter to connect them, never was very good, now i use GECA fittings to connect hose to hose, they cost 2 quid each ,solid brass, replacement washers 25p and dont leak at all.Down side is they are impossible to disconnect if system is under pressure so you have to turn pump off and open tap on hose reel before seperating.Got mine locally from an agricultural supplies place :) they look like brass disc with half inch barb on one side and "claws" on other that interlock with claws on another

best way is a brass hoselock female connector, they are expensive each, but dont leak, also if its not the o ring part its leaking from but where the hose connects, unscrew the bit that clamps down on the pipe, then cut off all the little bits that clamp onto the hose, or take out the plastic bit if its a brass one, then leave the screw on part off, and put a jubilee clip over that part, then it will never leak. I have never found plastic hoselocks to be any good they allways leak.
brass is best with the ball bearings that hold it onto the male fitting.
