On another topic someone mentioned using a clipboard with printed info on when quoting.

What would be the perfect method for quoting and what info would you have to hand?

A pad and a calculater that`s it,look at the front of a property and count the windows put down 20 windows at example £1 = that row of windows is £20,next floor might be £1.50 per window and there`s also 20 of these so 20 windows at £1.50 = £30.price up per side of property and then a total when all sides have been looked at,so if there was 4 sides to this property and it was the same on all 4 sides the price would be £200.

Take a camera and get good clear photgraphs of all sides and then put the quote in when you look at it you wont miss anything

That`s why i always add a bit on in case of any pit falls.

I just look around the property, estimate how long it would take to clean and then quote a price bearing in mind the minimum hourly rate I want to earn.

That's the problem, but the topic was 'perfect' way to quote, not the 'realistically best way'!   

I have found since the introduction of WFP that it's much easier to quote for work as with a little bit of experience under your belt you usually can tell how long a job is going to take you to within a few minutes.  I then have a set hourly rate that I use to calculate my quote, so if your hourly rate was £50 an hour and a job would take you 15 minutes, that's £12.50.

most of my deomestic jobs take around 30-45 minutes each     my hourly rate is not how i want it to be.

though most of my customers are prepriced by the last window cleaner who i bough the work off.
though all the work i have got myself i have guess quoted and prices are much better.

Over the years I have priced up the window cleaning on well over a thousand commercial buildings. And the only way to do it is to work out how long the job will take and then charge it at the hourly rate you want.

That was me - I use it on domestics ...

Someone else mentioned having a table of rates with the following headings at the top of the page:-

Minimum charge (say £10)

Standard rate     First clean rate     First clean rate heavily soiled

Then the rates under each column would be:-

10     15     20
11     17     23
12     19     25
13     20     27
14     22     29
15     24     30

20     30     40

etc.

Then when you quote you say my "regular monthly rate is - quote the left hand column" and point to it. Then immediately follow up with "looking at your windows they fall into this first clean rate" and point to it.

Job done!
 
Then people see it is a published rate and you're not pulling figures out the air.

I also have columns for monthly and two monthly clean as well.

I dont price per hour, I price a price for the individual job which takes into consideration the following:

how rich they are

how far away it is

how awkard it is

access

size of windows

location ( next to road getting dirty? )

Oh and I then add on the diesel money to get there, and if it takes all day my luch money!!! Luke
