SL-X Pole
« on: February 16, 2008, 05:06:36 pm »
I am getting interested in this pole but notice from various references on here that people have pre-ordered or reserved them. Does this mean that when they arrive, there'll be none available for general purchase or will there be a good supply of 'em?

At the moment there is about 15% of the production run available for general sale. There should not be a problem with just waiting until they are released and buying one. However many have decided to take the no cost option of reserving one by emailing me on alex@agardiner.co.uk and letting me know that they would like one resereved. There is no commitment in doing this and you can change your mind if you want to.

At the moment?

When we have them physically in our hands to sell, 15% of this production run are currently not spoken for, as of today.

I am still waiting for final date confirmation from the factory, it is driving me up the wall at the moment  :(

As soon as I have a definite date I will be in contact.

It's doing my head in too, now!

I have 3 jobs booked this week that I thought I would surely be doing with the new pole.

Now what am I going to do?

My 18' won't be long enough and my 35' is too heavy.

Dear Marj................HELP!  I've bought enough rubbish that I wish I hadn't, what shall I do?

Dear Pj,

I too, am very disappointed that you have not got your new pole sooner. Looks like your muscles are going to feel the strain a little longer.  :(

Alex, Is it only the 35 foot pole you are doing ? And what is the pre cost of ordering one @ 35 ft...

The SL-X is a 25ft pole (30ft reach) with the option to fit a telescopic extension that will add 5ft (35ft reach 30ft actual).

Here are the details:

http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/Gardiner_Pole_Systems_SL-X.html

There is no cost to pre-ordering one. Just send us an email and we will put your name down for one. If you change your mind, just let us know.

Alex- off topic but- just got a copy-second hand £3 of James Dyson's Against the odds. It's really good. If you read books at all try this one, what made me think of you was the sections that deal with his exaustive product testing. He had lots of problems and set backs in business.

I am reading it more for the marketing than the inventing/ product developement bit, he does it the same as you empiracally.

The Super-Lite range currently covers the 35-60 ft range.  Our firm has a continuing policy of research and development into new products, so keep watching the website....

My concern with the sl-x pole is whats the life of these poles with every day use, being that the price isnt cheap. And do you get carbon in your hands as it wears. And finally why isnt the extra piece added permantly to make 30 ft. So thats three ?s sorry Mr Gardiner

1.  Longevity - interesting question. The oldest one we have in use is 10 months old so I can only assure you that after 10 months of use, 5 hours a day, 4 days a week, it performs as good as new.

2. Carbon on hands - due you mean splinters or dust?  The fibre design and structure of the pole is such that splinters would be highly unlikely.  All pole types will produce dust.  If you regularly clean the pole, any build up is negligible.

3. 30ft - I personally feel that a 5 section 25ft pole (30ft reach) weighing 1.4 kg is an ideal set up for the average window cleaner.  In my opinion an extra section all the time moves it away from being an every day pole.

Are these SL-X poles as strong as the SL-2?
Is there a guarantee on the pole not splitting, chipping or cracking under normal use and if so, how long please?
Will it be easy to order & replace worn pole SL-X sections and for how long will you stock spares bearing in mind if I wanted to order a spare section for the SL-1 by internet shopping, I can't, so I either have to telephone or send an email requesting if you still stock these sections now that they aren't being sold as complete poles anymore.
