VW Owners past and present ....
« on: February 11, 2008, 08:03:40 pm »
I have a t4 transporter , and my side loading door just fell right off !
This was caused by the rollers at the bottom of the door breaking up , my Q is,
Has anybody ever had to purchase these ?
If so how much were they , i want to be prepared for the shock in the morning , i cant work from the back doors only  :'(

Didnt think it was going to be answered easily , the rollers are nylon , and the van was previously ownned by an engineering company , lots of nuts bolts and washers in the roller guides all the time , hence the break up of the nylon , reckon its gonna be expensive day tommorrow !

Agree with Alan - never happened to ours.  The T4 is a fantastic workhorse.

i can help you here

justcampers have a kit, by all accounts its a real pain to fit, they do sell a complete arm bit, these will be alot easier

VW do a complete job for about 90 quid, s.posed to save a fair bit of time over the JK kit above

many have alot of joy with this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SLIDING-DOOR-ROLLER-GUIDE-VW-T4-91-04-T4-SYNCHRO-93-04_W0QQitemZ220198549389QQihZ012QQcategoryZ9889QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem

its not a offical VW part, just a machined roller from a VW ebay place

also, many scrap yards will have the part, not much money

personally i would go with the ebay link

I worked for vw commercials for 5 years, the lower roller on T4's was a common problem, esspecially with builder vans cos they let the roller channel fill up with crap and dust etc, but the fact that the door fell off sounds like you've been ignoring the problem for a while, whooops!!!.  Matt is pretty much spot on, about 90 quid to fix, but there are cheaper options, I'd suggest ebay. Once you have fixed the problem, keep the channel and roller clean and regular use of a good spray grease should keep it problem free for years.
