Gloves for wfp
« on: February 10, 2008, 12:35:49 pm »
I have recently been through two pairs of Sealskinz. one pair was the standard and the other the reinforced ones. Both have lasted for about a month.

I have spent £50 ish on gloves in two months!!!

What do other people wear for work?

I also had the same problems, so now I just use 40gram thinsulate gloves. Just have to take them off to do tickets or handle money. Swings and roundabouts really, Also my hands dont stink at the end of the day. Anyway with a bit of luck we wont need them till next september.

I used sealskinz, to begin with i thought they were great, but i wouldnt buy another pair. I use the thicker industrial style latex gloves at the mo, they are blue in colour and they are a nice tight fit, so you can write out your chits still and drive. A pair will generally last me all day. On Friday i ordered a pair of Gul summer weight gloves from Gardiners, so will see how they go.

I find that they last a good length of time in normal use. Do not let them 'over-dry' after use (all night on a radiator) as this will leave them over-brittle which can affect their longevity.

They are not waterproof though. So will be ok for this weather we are having at the moment and the summer. The latex ones im using at the mo are good as they are waterprrof and as they are close to your skin they keep your hands warm. Only down side is when i take them off at the end of day, my hands look like ive been in the bath too long.

I like the fit on the gul gloves. However I ordered and received a pair form Gardiners at xmas. 2 weeks sfter the left indes finger has started to split. So I have put them to one side and just use the sealskinz again.

Hey Kev

Thinsulate gloves are pretty easy to get hold of, but lidl and aldi (dont laugh) do the heavier gram ones, which are breathable and 100% waterproof. About 7quid. The ones for 2-4 quid arent any cop.

my sealskinz also fell apart after a month i now use the power gloves from emporium poles and they have lasted 3 months and still going strong their not waterproof but if you put a pair of latex emam gloves on first they are completely waterproof and they are very good gloves for less than a tenner give them a try you won,t be disappointed regards alan

I tried a pair of the Omnipole gloves on last year, very warm, like you said a little bulky but warm. I have just bought two pairs from that site as I have a commercial roof / gutter cleaning job coming up for which they will be ideal.

Thanks for the top info  ;)

5 mm scuba gloves from any scuab shop, do a google search i got mine for about 10 quid, they are now 3 years old and still look new

idea for early mornings, infact i had them on this morning, the ice on te van was thick, i warmed my gloves on the van windscreen heater and they were very nice

we use marigold nitrotough, which are grippy, comfy, really really hardwearing (mine are a year old and I wear them EVERYDAY!!), best of all they are less than £3 and you can buy seperate thermal liners for them.

its the N250 by the way

don't waste your money on fancy gloves, these are brilliant for the job.

snap mine are pegaso two years old and cost 7quid from.....wait for it........lidl!!!  They had an advert in the national press one weekend and the random promotion that week was scuba gear ??? so as my ungers had split i bought these heavy neoprene ones. They turned out to be a bit too heavy really (i was still trad then and gloves were a last resort as i found they always slowed me down)but for pole use they are great and far tougher than any other glove i have used
