I've heard different. Accountants give incorrect advice as well.

Trust only yourself in these matters.

sorry to keep on off topic.
They ask for all records bank statements paying in books etc.
They also might want the seperate calculations for the capital depreciation and motoring etc on your return.

Yes I do take your point Tony.  Bearing in mind that I only do the outsides (for £15) usually, it is due an increase I suppose.  However, WFP has avoided the need to do that.  It used to take me about 30 - 35 minutes to clean the outsides.  With WFP it's more like 15 minutes.  This is one of those jobs where there has been a substantial time saving due to the type of windows.  I would have started steady increases on this job were it not for switching to WFP.  In fact, if I were to push the boat out, I could possibly do it in 10 - 12 minutes.

can you make available for download paul? I would also be interested to see how you have yours setup.
I also use excel but not access as i use calendar to schedule my work.
I've downloaded trial george and it looks good but i do like the idea of using a spreadsheet. I also run a tight ship admin wise as i do expect to get investigated 1 day. Though it's only since march that i have recorded all cheque details and payments.

I think I will do this actually.
Please bear with me a few days - maybe even a week - as I am getting through a load of window cleaning right now and I would need to insert dummy data into the programs.  I have four documents.
1) Spreadsheet with daily records that add up monthly amounts and the yearly total.
2) Database with customer details on that calculates next due date, money owed and has been set up by me to show a report on money owed and the work due over the next few days.
3) A separate database for all jobs that have an invoice issued and the details of those jobs.
4) A word processor document that uses mailmerge with 3) to calculate and compile invoices.

Sounds complex but it really isn't.  However, it only feels friendlier when you've used it a while.  The important bit is to keep it updated regularly - preferably daily - otherwise things can slide.
