Guys, the man is serious. No need for jokes, falling off a ladder is serious enough. No light issue. Post in off-topic if you want for jokes, but be serious about stuff like this.
And Jake, don't be stupid. I know somebody who died when he fell of the curb. I think he broke his neck or smashed his skull, been years can't remember. That's less then a foot mate. 8 foot is plenty to be lethally wounded. Ain't got nothing to do with being a wuss.
Mr. Bungalow, this is what I use, and this is as safe as it gets.
Safety boots, anti slip soles.
Ladder mitts
Ladder M8rix, ladder stabiliser that will safe your life. Brilliant.
76 degree ladder angle. Usually 3 rungs up is one rung out.
Always have three points of contact. 2 Feet, 1 hand.
No overreaching, ie center of body stays within the runs.
This should keep you almost guaranteed safe.
But like others said, this might be a good time to start thinking about a water fed pole system.
Kind regards
