House prices USA

Not as off topic as it might first appear. Go into this web site and look at the house prices in New York State USA.

www.buffalorealestate.co.uk

I have been to Rochester and its a nice area. This website is intended for investors but I would seriously like to know what the window cleaners charge over there. My friend Jim lives in Omaha Nebraska. When I told him I was charging the eqivilent of $25 a house he said that was cheap!

If you can buy a house for those prices and with their prices generally you could live very well as a window cleaner.

Hi Vince, didn't somebody on this site say that the Yanks only get their windows cleaned once a year, but when they do it's ins, outs, sills, frames, doors etc?

So yeah $25 for all that once a year would be cheap.

It appears to be only the English who want 'em cleaned at regular intervals.

I used to go into the American window cleaning websites before I found this site and there were a lot of people on there who talked about their domestic "route" which is what they call a round.
But generally I think that yes the emphasis is more on the whole package. I could live with that.

Only the English? I hope you ment, from the two here mentioned. Because in the Netherlands windows are one of the most important things of the house, and some are obsessed with having clean windows. Germany is a big market too, dunno bout any other countries.

Yea, in America they want everything done, once a year. But it's not as simple as it sounds.

Loads of properties have screens, which need to be taken out (some with screws), then washed, then clean windows, clean bits in between windows, screens back in place etc. That's what I heard.

They don't do rounds in our sense. Thats why the UK is the world leader for window cleaning developments as we are always at it! In the US they tell you when to come around and it's very rare to have a monthly domestic setup.

What about Australia, a good place to live and alot of Brits heading there now, but I think trad would have to be the go, as I have spent time there and they always have a water shortage.

No, what I meant was I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of Non-English customers I have.

Ya Pat posts on here as well as on Nats forum, and I seem to remember him saying something along the lines of the domestic being more a series of one off's than a monthly round like you guys get in the U.K. I am sure he will post on here later if he see this thread.

Ireland is also unlike the U.K. only a small portion of my domestic database are commited to a round (3%) most ring me when they want their windows done. It makes the retail and shop front work very important for the wet periods.

I just can't stop thinking about those prices. How much easier life would be for so many people on this forum if we could buy houses over here for that money.

I was considering moving to Canada and the house prices are the same there you can get twice the house for half the price with acreage aswell the yearly tax on property is half what we pay and you can get more for $1cad than £1 and its worth 1/2 as much... so why didnt i go!!!  ???
But as has already been said window cleaning is done once maybe twice per year and its mostly ladder work as their are screens etc to remove and clean

Yep, once or twice a year is about normal for domestic window cleaning here and its really considered a luxury to have your windows cleaned not almost a necessity as it is in the Uk, partly due to the price as it can get to be fairly expensive and partly because its usually an all day event or  at least a few hours so people have to set aside time to have it done
We would not have a round as you know it for domestic, although you can usually bank on your   "regular" customers calling about the same time every year.
Price wise, we would be hoping to bill about $75 per hour per man, some would be as low as 40 per hour but below that it really wopuldn't pay
There is a lot more to window cleaning here as a lot of houses would have screens and in the colder climates most older homes would have storm windows which when they work correctly can take about 20 min per window, when they don't work correctly anything up to an hour
Much like the UK, different places have different prices and a real estate website is a good way to figure out where is good and where is not, The higher the price of houses in an area the higher the wages
The site posted above is from upstate NY which is known to have the lowest house prices in the north east, Check one  from NY city California, Massachussetts and the same houses will be 3 times the price Check one from down south, New orleons, tennesee kentucky etc and the prices will be lower again, Hope that helps                                     Pat
