acetone trial run
« on: February 03, 2008, 01:43:25 pm »
acetone £1.80 for 500 ml

put a small  quantity of the stuff into my 1990 astra estate 1600
so far-
starts real easy from cold
nippy acceleration
engine smooth running
more power
now i use 4th gear instead of 3rd  5th gear instead of 4th

it usually does 35mpg loaded with water  a lot of stop start
when my tank gets empty i expect much more mpg when i check

the only one bad effect it might have is could eat away some inferior hose or cheap plastic in the fuel system

there is a site specializing in acetone use ill try to find it
on it are a lot of posts on its effects

dont get it on your paintwork also

put too much of it in --apparently decreases mpg

I've been using 40ml per 40litres of Doozal in my 200tdi Landy, and it DOE'S make a positive difference to the running of your engine. Quieter, smoother, and just generally a nicer drive - not so sure about increased MPG, maybe a mile or two for me.

You can get acetone from :

http://www.seabase.eu/onlineshop.asp?cat=Chemicals|Acetone_(pure)&sbtag=462libcategories

Get yourself a big syringe to squirt it into your tank before you fill up.

At that concentration, I really can't see it doing to much harm to your rubber bits.

Your basically just adding enough the break up the surface tension of the dooozal, and allowing it to vaporize better in the combustion chambers. Too much and it can have negative effects!!

what myth is that?

Acetone doing anything good for your car except degrade your fuel lines over time.

If you check what Mythbusters did in their episode on this, there is just no way that in other cases it can all of the sudden be better for mileage.

If it runs smoother, it's probably because your injectors were dirty, and the acetone cleared it.

Are you using petrol or diesel as fuel?

lol, nice conspiracy theory.

They tested both Diesel and Petrol. Not a single bit of difference.

Acetone would clean dirty injectors, which would cause you to get a higher mpg, and a smoother running engine guaranteed.

So it can't be treated then?  Pity.  I was going to make an appointment tomorrow.  :)

yea but trucks have much higher torgue, different gears, and are just made for low rev pulling. Not so with your normal car. Regardless, if you get under a certain rpm your engine has to work harder, and will wear more quickly. Simple logic really.

Not saying you'll notice it with normal mileage, or that big ends wear. Just saying that your engine does have to work harder.
