Why pay more?
« on: February 01, 2008, 12:19:02 pm »
If you had a short simple advert like this:

Joe Bloggs
Window Cleaning
1234567
Why Pay More?

Would you put the 'why pay more' bit on, or does it cheapen it?

Joe Bloggs the undercutting windowcleaner. That's what is says really. If you get a quote from another WC, come to me and I'll get you the cheapest price.

That's out of line really. First of all, there was no point in starting that poll that you made because of me, just because I started the best day ever thread. One day that I had a good day. Your comments are getting ridiculous.

Yes I do dissaprove, undercutting prices is the grim reaper of our industry.

I didn't start 'that' poll because of you, GCQ, I wouldn't want to flatter you.

My comments are ridiculous?

I think I'll make a poll about that.   ;D

call me first? it may say that to you but to me it implies that they are overpaying.
i think it looks cheap and devalues our service.
sorry rosy but its my opinion

personally i see nothing wrong in the line " why pay more "

it implies your cheap and some like to think they are having a bargain,
you dont see on a tesco's advert

" we are 5p more expensive on baked beans that others "

i also like the tag line " a honest job for a honest price "

But, hey, thats imho

Seems like we're getting more and more peeps saying they earn zillions per week blah blah blah

er, it wasn't ME that started this... read here _____________>

and yesterday someone posted a thread about earning over £300 in that day, that's the difference.

Tony, I value thought out thoughts rather than being  accused of 'undercutting' when I would never do that.   To me, undercutting means finding out what another w/c is charging and then charging less.  Not exactly sophisticated.

Like Matt say, Tesco have 'Every little helps', and if they weren't using that one I might have put that in  an advert.

Every Penny Helps, Why Pay More, The More You Spend the More You Save etc... are these all undercutting, GCQ?

Fair enough, but I didn't realise it was you that wrote it, as I don't really take in who starts threads as I'm too busy reading the posts in it. Sorry if you thought I was being personal to you about £300 becasue I wasn't.

This reminds me of the 'eeg' bloke who got the hump because he tought I was picking on his spelling when i wasn't.

Rosy
i did not read it as you were an udercutting window cleaner. my first post was a reaction to your post to g.q.c. which i thought was a fair response.
half the fun on here is peoples opinions that cause interesting debates.
im sorry but i thought your response to gqc was a bit low.

I don't see the problem, espcially as when I wrote that I didn't appreciate that it was GCQ that started the thread, that's all.  It wasn't dig at all. I think it's great to turnover £300 and I have no problem with that.

I just want more work and am trying to think about different ways of getting it, but that doesn't include undercutting others.  I've had that done to me, so I know what that's like and it's not on.  As has been said, Tesco and the like compete on price to get you into the store (loss leaders, like cheap chicken, offers on toothpaste) and then charge you more for other things.

They appear to undercut each other, when in fact they have very healthy profits - isn't that what WE want as all?

In my experience most of these taglines are either ignored or taken the wrong way or not in the way you inteded.

I used to have on my business cards: "We're not satisfied until you are"

It seemed a good idea at the time!

Better to say as little as possible these days....

It does exactly what it says on the label

Hey, that's a good one! ;D
