Staff tax/NI- question

Hello!
I'm in the planning process of starting cleaning business- Just wanted to ask about cleaners wages- I'm hoping to employ 1-3 if business takes off in next few months. if there are earning under the weekly limit- do you still declare there income to Inland R? Or can you just pay them cash/cheque in hand with a payslip? Also im assuming even if first years turnover is only small, ALL has to be declared and shown to IR? Thanks

'Miranda' your first stop should be the Business Link website, it's an invaluable source of information.

You have to register with IR within three months of trading. You can take on staff under the threshold and don't have to inform the IR until they pay tax, however you must have a P45 or a correctly signed P46 from the employee. You have to submit all information to IR at end of year and produce P60's. Give their help line a call they are very helpful.
