How do I remove vehicle lettering????
« on: January 26, 2008, 02:38:41 pm »
Someone told me white spirit would do the trick,... but I'm struggling!!

I've gotten the lettering off no probs with a scraper (carefully!) but the glue left behind just won't budge!! I'm scrubbing with white spirit, heating it with a hairdryer, even tried a bit of T-cut. Its shifting very very slowly,.. but seiously, its going to take me all week if I carry on like this!!!

Any advice?

try wd-40.  I had a small amount of glue to remove and a small amount of wd-40 on a good soft cloth did the trick.  Try a small area first tho
Veni, vidi, vino, splatus.

Glue will be removed best with an alcholic based product, i.e. Isopropanol
or spiritus. Also use a microfibre cloth.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I was told by the company that put the lettering on that white spirits should work,... it doesn't!!!
The hairdryer trick also failed,.. but maybe only because it was so cold today.

Methylated spirits, isopropanol or oil flo are next to try, whichever I can get hold of first!

Nathaneal
You will need some paint thinners from a paint spraying shop or car spraying/ body repair place
I have just striped mine over the Christmas break and used it to remove the glue left by the lettering
This will work a treat and will only cost you a few qiud

I can get my hands on thinners before I can get oil flo,.. so I'll be giving it a go tomorrow. It'll be worth all the hard work when it sells!!

Anyone wanna buy a van???  ;) ;D ;D ;D

Nathanael you wont move it with just the fluids you have to peel it off first get a hairdryeer and heat a letter up at a time then peel one corner back and it will come straight off the oil o flow, meths etc is to get the glue thats left on after you got the main writing off

Sounds like you need mor heat. Try a blow lamp but only on the lettering itself, and keep the flame at just the right distance to avoid burning either the lettering or the van paint, and obviously don't use petrol, or:

paintshop/body work  suppliers sell and decal remover, it may dull the paint but its easily polshed after. I used it once for removing damaged decals/stickers on a motorbike.
