Mine are all getting close to the legal limit, as all my work is less than eight miles away do you think i could economise with remoulds? Would it be wasting money having branded decent tyres for just the daily bump and scrape around town?

if you are carrying weight I would not risk it at all. only IMO 8 miles is a long way to travel if you count in seconds, and thats the time it takes for an accident

i thought they made remoulds illegal i put part worns on my vans they only cost £15 each

remoulds don't last, a new set of tyres will at least give you peace of mind for quite a while.

Been doing a bit of Googling and apparently 80% of aviation tyres are retreads as are many truck tyres. As i'm hardly looking for performance i wondered if retreads are better these days? Surely they are built to a British standard what with all the health and safety laws out there? My nice Michelins are just scraped to death on kerbsides anyway. Any one else?

Go for the reinforced tyres if you carrying weight....or those tyres may pop on the cheaper brands

go for budget makes KUHMO are pretty good lots of others out there good compromise IMO reinforced and 40 quid fitted look for a local indie tyre place and see what they got

better quality tyres last longer than cheap ones, you get what you pay for IMO did nearly die when they said it was £115 each tyre on the wifes car

we got michelins on all 4's on both vans but only cuz the tyre guy had ordered 2 many sets in the transporter size so we got them, really pleased with them so got them for the pug too.

about £50 a corner

My dad is very serious about using good tyres. He has been in two serious car accidents ( not his fault ) and his dad died in a car crash. He gets soft compound tyres for his own car, they cost alot and wear quick but they grip the road much better. Our tyre supplier is one of my dads old friends and actually designs tyres for the really big companies. They are the most important part of the vehicle because they are the only thing that keeps you on the road, Luke

do you think when they design these vehicles they just chuck any old crap on? not at all that all is included on the design process which manufacturers spend millions on getting it right.

thats true, only prob is many people have a second hand van and would not know the tyres they had on there anyway, to me they are black and go round, every now and again i have to change one or 2, i dont scrim on price as i value myself mote than money

I'm lucky, our tyre guy ( dad has been going to him for over 20 years ) knows loads about tyres, but generally the more expensive=better, especially with things to do with cars, Luke

Ive got michelins on my scudo. So far done 21452 miles since ive had them put on, well worth the little extra money.

I've got a very very expensive set of pirelli's on the car (RS6), £195 a corner and they last about 5,000miles a time!


But my right foot is made of lead and its the wrong car to be putting nying-nyang tyres on.

bear in mind the rears on the porker are something like 385/30/18, really wide and low.

my son is looking to buy something fast this summer but doesn't want to spend anymore than 20k (no kids - half owns the business and doesn't need another car), anyone recommend anything?? It has to be German/swedish/British not the usual jap scrap
