Selling gutter cleaning services to companies
« on: January 21, 2008, 10:38:52 am »
We all know about knocking doors to sell w/c services but what about selling a gutter cleaning service to industrial units?

If you knock a 1000 house doors and get a one percent 'yes' response, that gets you 100 jobs, and that's a lot of door knocking!  Not impossible, but hard wwork, and that's possibly in an area with compact houses.

When it comes to industrial/commercial gutter cleaning, what's the best way to promote the service?  These sorts of customers are spread out all over town, and so going knocking on doors sounds like a bad idea to me.   Is writing letters the answer?  If so, who do you address your letter to?    Do you send a brochure of some sort, explaining what you do and costs etc?

Find out by phoning who you need to send a letter to. Send a letter then phone up and ask for that person a few days later, have a chat if possible telling them what "benefits your system has".  If not successful in a couple of months send another letter, always enclose a card as people keep cards rather than letters. Keep mailing every two-three months or so. Sooner or later they will call.

Remember though that some companies are not overly keen to have ladders on their properties at the moment so if you have a telescopic system sell its virtues.

hope this helps

Do you just go through the phone book (the red business one, not the Yellow Pages) and get phoning?

This could be a good time to use the time not w/c due to rain.

What pole system? Do you mean using a pressure washer to chuck crap all over the walls?

1% of 1000 is not 100 you have got your maths wrong 1% of 1000 is 10 but it would be good to get 100 jobs from 1000 leaflets. :o
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt

There is a company on this site who sell what looks like a high powered vacume connected to a long pipe that sucks the muck out ! so there is no need for ladders..... think it has a camera on the end so you can see job in motion .

Thanks Jonah... I'm more interested in how to let commercial companies know about it.

Best way is good old fashioned foot work .....you could offer to show them the system and by setting it up could show them the crud in their gutters ......or even better get somone to canvass for you and put them on a good commision !

We offer a free partial camera survey, once they see the debris in the gutter we get the job.

Rosy; Why not on a rainy afternoon have a drive around your local area and have a look for the work your looking for. industrial units, nursing homes etc etc.  Then go in a try to find out who deals with that sort of stuff. Your aim at this stage is to get a name.  The receptionist will be trained not to give much away in some places but others are great and will tell you everything. Then either try and get an appointment to see them or send them a letter.

It works  ;)

Still better than cleaning out gutters from a ladder!

If any muck goes on the wall you just blast it off!
