Online tax problem
« on: January 15, 2008, 09:44:35 pm »
I've just gone to fill in my tax form online as usual, after an hour a day for the last week sorting out 52 weeks of work.

Problem is, since I last did it I've formatted my harddrive and re-installed Windows.

So not only have I lost my log-in, but my password and code.
What a bummer.

Suppose I'll have to phone the useless goons, and spend 20 minutes being directed from one department to another, because they don't know what they're doing. >:(

Anybody know the Self Assessment site well, and know a way around this?
Please... :-\

youcould do what I do, get an accountant to do it for you but forgets to send it in and then you get a reminder in the door which you inform your accountant about he then tells you that he forgot to send the form in but will do it now next thing you know is there's a guy at your door giving you a court summons so you ring the number on the summons they inform you they have received nothing and so the saga continues.

I think its a phone call Roger.

I save mine as a word doc to a usb flash drive, not that helps you though.

But do it soon as they may have to send you a new one by post.

Cheers Roy (I think).
What a ridiculous set-up.

Send it by post?????
If I miss the deadline they can stick the £100 where it would hurt to sit down. >:(

the unfortunate thing is that this is the gov we're dealing with, its you who loses every time.

unless you're a low life layabout on benefits while the rest of us work to pay tax

If you  loose your password or log in details they usually wont give them out over the phone .
They send them to you by smail mail and it can take up to 10 days

The same thing happened to me , I lost my password. The person on the other end must of had a bad day because they did not help me at all.
Whatever I asked them it was as if they were reading it of a set letter, I could of given them any security  details that they wanted but they insisted it had to be posted

Unfortunately it's no use moaning about it if we leave it till the last minute to get it all done, lets face it, you've had since roughly March to get your details in, and now it's only a few days to go.
And in defence of the tax dept, they are currently stretched to the limit dealing with an avalanche of self assessment returns sent in at the last minute...mine included!! :-\

I've never known any other response from them in all the years I've dealt with them.

They haven't got a clue what they're doing, and I'm d@mned if I'm going to suffer for it.

Last year they suddenly decided to double my tax bill.
It was actually to get me in advance payments.

I asked about 6 people in 3 or 4 different departments why they'd done so, and not one incompetent could explain why.
I wasted hours and felt ripped off.

The following week I saw Ian in town, and he explained why in about 10 seconds flat. ::)
