I think it's one of those things you need to test and change just like advertising.

When you hit on the right level I think it would be good for people who aren't into selling. You could catch most people at one of three price points with the perceived value being high.

I don't use it because by the time I've finished weighing up what a prospect needs and how much they have to spend I'm usually about right.

Shaun,
No I havnt done it for ages either. However as there is a huge cheaper priced market out ther which is beyong our reach, because our prices mean they always choose someone cheaper. I thought of carrying my new low powered Prochem porty in the van, then when they phone for a telephone quote - tell them they can have it done for say £45.. front lounge (As I know you can always get the job over the phone at this price) then turn up with both porty and TM, ans say Make your choice, I can do with this instead for £75.

I think Shaun means is when you put a package together for a customer and they pay a one off price and  a monthly amount by direct debit. Ie Full house ( 3 bed room) carpet clean, 3 piece suite, & protector. Then you go back in 6 months and clean the walk areas only. The customer pays an up front price say of £350 then £35 per month.
Hopefully the customer stays with you for the next year and it rolls over again.

Usually called maintenance plans.

I'd do that if I were quiet but some will say that they want it done cheap and why would you knacker yourself up with a porti on what could or probably would be a minger as the cheap end of the market usually has that kind of work.

I agree Paul but sometimes the brain goes on over drive, if i had that TM I'd take pictures of it and put them in an album and when I go into customers homes I would show it to them so they can get an idea that you are cleaning with something special.

Depending what mood Im in I'll say its £70 for the full service clean or £60 for a clear room and customer vacs thoroughly.

I must be getting lazy as i like it when they take the latter.

Wife banned me from using it she saysI would do the same if it was a Cheapo or Expensive clean apart from protector, I Just would  not stop myself doing the best I could on evey carpet

The question is do customers just want their carpets cleaned or do they need hype to make them think I am better than you or you.

I agree with you on doing the best job Ian but perhaps some customers don't want to pay for the best job, some customers just say that they want it to look good for an occassion etc but want YOU the trusted erson to clean it but at the budget they can afford.

Colin from Blackpool offers 2 services, clean and clean and protect which goes down well, I know it's simple but offering 2 prices you have less chance of them saying no.

Offer them 3 packages,

Basic - Clean and Groom
Full- Vacum, Stain Spot, Pre Spray, HWE groom
Premium-Vacum Stain Spot Pre Spray, HWE groom, and Protect plus Free Stain touch up for a Year.

Nearly all go for the Full service because they think they are missing out if they go for the basic, which they are. Also the basic is really for people that are moving out and really dont care or want to no how good it will be for the new tennets or Home Owner.

Its also makes them look cheap and people dont want to be though of as too cheap.

What Shaun says is true and fairly common, but what people mean when they make that kind of statement, is, "I just want a cheap clean"
This is when having a minimum charge, pays off.
I offered "options" in my formative years, but quite honestly, unless you're prices are too high, if you give a price for a job and it's not acceptable.     Move on to the next client.

I wasnt being totaly serious when I said about taking the porty as well as the TM, though I think a fair number of those that always go for the cheaper priced CCs would be willing to pay the higher price IF ONLY THEY KNEW THE DIFFERENCE. Trouble is they dont until they see it, which they never will unless they try it. The question is - how do we get them to try it, without getting ourselves ripped off.

Neil

I see where your coming from but there are other ways without reducing the quality ie. no pre-spray or spotting.  To remove these two elements would reduce the level of clean and put you in the cowboy catagory IMO.

Those who want it cheap often have the dirtest carpets.

The secret is to provide the same level of clean but get them to do the donkey work.
