2008 mentoring
« on: December 24, 2007, 02:22:49 pm »
I would like to take this opportunity to mentor 2 guys for a year.

This is for some body newish to the industry who wants to make it work. Must have at last a year under their belt and have a bit of fire in their belly.

I will share how over the past 3 years I have been able to turn this trade into a nice earning business.

Covering cleaning techniques, marketing, pricing and full support.

Any body interested in this contact me.

Well done that man

This is something that is very close to heart and I often say I want to be actively involved.

I have also built a very succesful external cleaning business that has had to be separated into two .

We have also diversified into a completely different field and are developing a third avenue as I write this.

If I had mentors when I left school I would have done all this much earlier on in life but they weren't there.

Went into a local school this year as part of a industry day where they involve local business in showing the kids a bigger picture.

We should pass on our knowledge

Rob ;D

Hi Paul,

Do you mean someone local to you that you can visit and meet regularly or to provide your support via email and phone?

I would certainly be interested if it is the latter.

I am away now for a couple of days but will contact you then if that's ok.

Myself and my partner have been up and running for just over a year now covering various aspects of cleaning.  Whilst I want to keep all sides of the business running I am very keen to develop the carpet and upholstery side of things over the next year or two.

I will be in touch after Boxing Day.

Regards

Simon

John,
Good luck with your application to Paul. If you are unsuccessful and seeing as you spent a day with me last year, I will offer you the same, I know you want to do the job properly, so its there if you want it. Let me know.

I would strongly advise anyone to check the credentials of any person who is charging for a mentioning service.
If the person or persons mentioning know how to run a business they will have no problem releasing three years accounts for you to see before letting them advise you on how to run your company.

Any tom Dick or harry could run in to difficulty in there own business and diversify into this sort of thing quite easily to make a quick buck.

Obviously, if its a FREE service I apologise wholeheartedly Paul.

Matt
You have to be sceptical in this business, because as you say thre are too many people out there ready to make a buck on you.

Im glad Dave Lee has added a helping offer out to John as they have already spent some time together, Dave is very experienced and runs a very sucessful business so should be vry benefical to Johns achievments. There are are lots of guys on here that can and im sure will now the ball has started rolling will mentor people this year.

Just to clarify my angle in this, I dont aim to make any money out of it, it is just an honest invitation to help a couple of guys out that may be struggling to get there.

Alot of my info can be seen on my web site and there are a lot of guys on the forum who know me personally, I dont hide anything including my profile ( Matt I note yours is void of info ;))

Hi Guys

This was tried in Pros by Trevor but never really got off the ground.

It is very generous of Paul and Dave to offer this and they will both be excellent  .

Cheers

Gary I am also a Sagittarian  :D

I know you are, I'm not, I'm a Gemini, but I don't believe in all that, I think it's a load of Taurus   ;D

Just thought offering to be a mentor was a typical Sagittarian thing to do.
I prefer to be a tormentor  ;)  :)

A bold gesture, Mr Moss and to be applauded, but, although I rarely agree with Matt, he has struck a chord and whether you are offering something FREE, or otherwise, we are living in a sad world, with litigation issues appearing from the most innocent of actions.

I would look seriously at some form of indemnity, or disclaimer, to protect you, because, with the best intentions and while trying to avoid endangering people, or property, THINGS DO GO WRONG.

Unfortunately, it's usually to person who is doing the favour, who gets clobbered.

We are involved in training activities in our Care business and the legislation / monitoring / reviews/ compliance procedures are getting worse by the year.

CANT POSSIBLY IMAGINE WHO ON EARTH WOULD GIVE THERE HARD EARNED INFO OVER FOR NOTHING, THATS STUPID, WHO ARE YOU, FATHER BLOODY CHRISTMAS?I hope whoever you decide to mentor truly does have some fire in his belly cos this business is tough, really tough if you want to be around for a long time, if he falls flat on his/her face it won't make you look so good then.....will it.
Having said that i wish you and your mentoree the best of luck, and look forward with batet breath and amusement as to the results....!
