Rosy, are you sure window cleaning is for you? one of your eariler posts was about giving customers presents  :o and now you want to offer free cleans ;D ,i think you would be better off doing charity work  ;D  ;D

I was just thinking about that thread myself after reading this one.

I am lost for words.

Really I am, I think the only thing Im liable to say might offend, so I'll shut up.

Matt

Interesting thread, there is a carpet cleaning training company that has " free carpet cleaning " as one of their main marketing ploys. There intention is to develop a client out of a customer, so they offer one carpet clean for free, so that they can demonstrate how well they clean carpets.
Now when you consider that many people will only have there carpets cleaned once a year or two, then it could be a long time before they see the real benefit of this marketing, but for window cleaning, as we clean the windows every month, you could see the benefit much quicker.
When I was first starting off, I used to put in a very low price for Show houses on new estates, so that I could be on the estate every week and find out when people were moving in, this was very succesful and now I realise that I could have done these Show houses for free and still it would have been worth my while.
I know over the years that every time I am asked to go into a new area that, customers start to come to me and the area develops, if I was in need of work, getting a foot-hold in a new area by doing one house for free, would be a good marketing ploy.

But as a commited christian I also know that there is a principle called " Sowing and Reaping " and so over the years I have also looked for opportunities to sow some free window cleaning, not every day or even every week, but every now and again I would clean someones windows for free.
Next week I have a customer who has been a customer of mine for probably 10 years and last time around she told me that she was out of work and could I come round to her less often at the moment, well I will do her house for free, probably take about 45 minutes, but she has been a good customer and will continue to be when she gets another job.
Gardeners know that you cannot keep taking out of the ground without putting something back, so even if it is just at this time of the year ( christmas ) find away that you can put something back into the area's that you work in, and you will find that next year you will have a better harvest.

Blessings

I do a cancer hospice near me four times a year for free and a womens refuge whenever they call me, I would regularly drop a free clean voucher in my more regular custys letterbox for them to pass on too friends and i do my neighbours my mums and my sisters for free. BUT I DONT BUY XMAS PRESSIES.

I dont do any of these for what I get back, but I do get referals from them but lifes too short too be so busy that I cant take half an hour to do a freebie. If the notion took me I would not charge someone on a whim just to make me feel good and because I can as I work for myself it's one of the benifits in my opinion.

I also get asked to sponsor spot prizes from time to time for various good causes and generally do a voucher for an inside outside or a g,s,f

we do free cleans on all first cleans.

we let them try before they buy

only ever been " done " once

we advertise free window cleaning and it is ,we then give a quote, a very accurate quote as we know what it really costs

clients love it

I voted yes but only if the customer has recomended us and we get the job and if this happens quite a few times say 5 at a least, then we dont really do a free clean but we just do their insides for free that way we lose no money, just a bit of time!!

Out of interest there was something on Radio Two about taxi drivers, and one of them rang in to say that his company would do a free journey if they were late to a call by more than ten minutes...

He once went from Louth to Newquay in Cornwall on the strength of that promise!

I clean my next door's house for free; but only when I do my own; which is after loads of nagging from Wor Lass.

He's a nice old guy who lives there, a retired army Warrant Officer with a knackered back; he's a proper gentleman and his German wife is a canny lass too.

They're neighborly neighbors, so I don't mind doing theirs free; six times a year(ish); and I've had to fight hard not to take a payment from them.
