VACUUM CLEANER
« on: November 20, 2007, 08:39:19 am »
Please can anyone recommend the best vacuum for me.
I have a large carpet (tiles) office and curently use eithera James or a Henry.
They appear now not to be man for the job.
The offices are in an industrial environment and quite often people from the shop floor will enter the office area and iron filings are now a problem (factory personnell used to wear over slippers but this no longer applies).
Regards
Tom

It is not the brand of cleaner that needs to be found here, it is the type. Henry is a cylinder cleaner, in this situation you need some sort of upright cleaner as they have a revolving brush which will loosen debris from the pile. Commercial upright cleaners can be very expensive as can the spare dust bags. If you are only cleaning this one carpet or this is the only one that has the problem then you may very well get away with using a domestic upright.

Hi Tom
Is this your contract or is this the place you work.

If its your contract and you do regular ie daily/twice weekly etc then I would go for a commercial upright. Sebo has been suggested and the model BS36 is pretty good. Strong build, should last years.  lot of the professionl carpet cleaners on this forum have the Sebo BS36. Should be able to get new for about £240ish.
If its a one off - just use your domestic upright.
I love Henrys but you need that rotating brush to get the filings up.

Now if this is your place of work then my concern would be those iron filings.
They are going to wear that carpet.
Seemed a good idea they used plastic overshoes - so why did they stop and could it not be re-introduced. Or get rid of carpet and put some hard wearing hard floor surface down.

Ive differentiated the two scenarios because if you are the contractor to clean you may not have a voice on how the company manages.

Hi Tom,

A&M in Watford were doing the BS36 for under £200 delivered there number is 01923 671 587 or if your budget is tight you could try an air brush attachment on your henry, for around £40. It's not going to be as good as a BS36, but it does make an improved difference to a henry.

It was a special offer when i bought mine. If you ask them to send you out a catalogue, then you'll go on there database and then they'll send you any special offers in the future.
