In a previous post you said you could do them in 10 minutes, so how come they're now '5 minute houses'?

You make me larf, Squeaks, but I like you.

 ;D

Beacuse it would have sounded a bit pedantic saying 7 or 8 minutes. ;)

Sorry for the big word.

I can't believe how much time and money some of you spend travelling. :o

It all depends on how much work you have in the area you are traveling to!

What, do the petrol stations give you a discount if you're travelling further? ;D

Even if you've got a full day, it still costs more than a full day closer in. ???

If had work say in Gloucester, that's 30 miles from me...

40 mins travelling each way, that's 1 hr 20 at least, depending on traffic.
That's at least £40 gone.
60 miles is about £9-10 in the van.

So it would have to be a £50 better day just to break even.
But then, what's the point in the travelling then?
So it would have to be a £100 better day to be worth it.

In less hours because of travelling?
Couldn't see that happening. ???

You're right Rog, I wouldn't travel if it wasn't worth it. All my work is contract work so no worrying about collecting money or customers saying 'not today it's too wet' or any other excuse. My payments are guaranteed and most of it is by bacs these days. It would be nice to work close to home all the time but that's just not the way it's worked out for me. ( I wouldn't travel far if it was only £100!).

brentwood, shenfield, chelmsford, stock, ongar, epping

Is there still an area called "Hutton Poplars" in Shenfield?  It was a big orphanage, with a lot of huge Victorian houses arranged around a green, like a small village, with its own two story school building.  I used to clean the windows there in the early 70's - everthing inside and out - a week's work for two men - every house had its own supervisor and you had to get each one to sign to say their windows had been cleaned properly ::)

I won't tell you how much we got for it - you wouldn't believe it anyway ;D

Cheers,

Ian

its all still there but the houses are private now and the hall is an adult education centre come wedding venue!!! property prices around there are obscene!! dont know who cleans there but its not me!!

I used to live in baddesley ensor on st nicholas estate. Do you clean number 2... my old house. Good memories. You probably know of a cheeky chap Lee Hewitt and his brother Glyn. There both wc's from that area. Going down to pick up a car this weekend, might bump into you, who knows.
