That is why I specified areas close to me. Most of my work is within 6 miles of my house. I would only consider travelling for a job if the money was really good. I had a job which involved me doing upwards of 70,000 miles pa and so now the less I do the better.

I can't believe how much time and money some of you spend travelling. :o

It all depends on how much work you have in the area you are traveling to!

What, do the petrol stations give you a discount if you're travelling further? ;D

Even if you've got a full day, it still costs more than a full day closer in. ???

If had work say in Gloucester, that's 30 miles from me...

40 mins travelling each way, that's 1 hr 20 at least, depending on traffic.
That's at least £40 gone.
60 miles is about £9-10 in the van.

So it would have to be a £50 better day just to break even.
But then, what's the point in the travelling then?
So it would have to be a £100 better day to be worth it.

In less hours because of travelling?
Couldn't see that happening. ???

We have cleaners in my area who travel over forty miles each way. They work as a team and seem to have the large estates pretty much sewn up, so if they are all working like JD then they are blitzing through all the houses (nine minutes per house a custy told me). Usually at least three guys to the van. They do a crap job and don't touch any frames. Strangely the customers don't seem to care. I agree for a sole trader i can't understand the vast distances covered and i don't understand any customer paying extra for the fuel.

my closest work is across the road, but most of it is at least 20 miles away.
If i have all my work closer to me i could only charge half the amount that i do in other areas. around me people are charging as little as 50p a window, and thats far to low to coomete with for me. So its definately worth travelling!
