i've got loads of domestic work, but i'm getting fed up with arriving at 1 house cleaning 2 in a row then packing up and moving to the next >:(

this is no good in the winter in and out of the van.

what i want to know is how do you guys get the commercial work (hotels and residential homes) that kind of work where i just set up once and get on with it. What's the best way to approach?

many thanks jon

Hi Easy

A lot of the time with commercial it is about knowing the right people.

To help along the way
1 - wear a uniform and be presentable
2 - have pl insurance
3 - advertise when you can
4 - ring around to see who is in charge of maintainance etc.

Patience is what is required. Even when i have canvassed a place and just got 2 in the street i find after a while people see you reguarly and trust is built. More and more of those who said no thanks ask for theirs to be done. just keep at it.

In general window cleaners who are just starting up are wasting their  time canvassing to get a couple of houses here and there then come on here moaning there fed up of getting in and out of their cars all day...all of this can be avoided by purchasing  a round... at the end of the day you are only investing in yourself, this  investment will never go down, provided you clean to a decent standard. So put up the cash hit and hit the ground running don,t lose days due to no work etc.....then by all means do the canvassing later  and see if you would take on one house here and one there .. i  think not..... rant over

I agree with what you just put, but we also take on houses here and there as this normally leads to us getting 5 or six in the same road  ;)

Hi Easy
 Just a tip
I have over a period of time asked in general conversation
what all my customers do for a living and where they work
that's not being nosey
But you can then ask if they have a window cleaner at work and if they are happy with the service
Just another way of canvasing

can understand where you are coming from, but be patient my friend :) over time (spring coming up) your areas will compact themselves more, There are pros and cons with all sorts of work, but when you do get  a clean that takes you 4 or more hours, one day you will be thinking after 3 hours in the same place "bored with this one now" need a change of scenery ;D If you are patient you will soon have a good mix ;)

yeah I have to agree with some of the other comments on domestic rounds, normally they become more compact over time.

we cleaned 1 3rd floor apartment for 8 months before the other tenants starting asking for quotes.  we now do all of the 2nd and 3rd floors (about 15 in total).  Another place is a cul-de-sac, 3 customers for about 2.5yrs then in the last 6/7months increased to 12.

its a strange old game but stick at it.  buying a round can either be the best or worst investment you will ever make in business.
