WFP 'tips & tricks'
« on: November 14, 2007, 07:00:34 pm »
I've read lots of information about using WFP's recently as i'm buying mine soon. Tried to work out the best way to clean the sills. frames, negotiate fences, gates. Tried to work out the best way to run the hose pipe around peoples houses.

But although I have done my research I am consious that there will still be alearning curve involved. Can any one give me any usefull 'tips or tricks' advice for when I start using the system?

Before you start  clean every window frame at the top only takes 5 mins per normall job, will save you loads of hassle when you start. Will think of a few more and post back later  ;)

I find that it increases the chance of runs and spots if you don't clean above the top of the frames, thats why I clean the whole frame every clean.

Stay away from air vents!

Cought one the other day and had muck dripping down window for ages.

Get a good wfp brush. Make sure you keep it clean.

Dont take on to much work untill you have got used to working the system. I am glad I did not. After a couple of weeks I had rectified my mistakes and found out which way of cleaning was best.

Spiders webs have a habit of finding the brush especially on properties that have not been cleaned for a while.....flick them of soonest with a whip action from the pole.

Be careful on painted windows as they will flake if knocked and check to make sure the paint is not chalky before you give a price.

Hope these few hints will help.

Other more experienced guys should have other jems as well.

Hope it goes well for you.

Rob

I don't rinse air vents at the top of window frames because of dirty drips dripping onto clean glass after it has dried. If the vents are noticeably covered in spiders webs I brush over them quickly with the dry brush before I start cleaning the windows.

must agree with window washers oncleaning top frame while still trad also any trim or casement above window as well takes only seconds but willhelp lots when system up and running everyone is different but i try not to get to much water on top frame i just wipe it then rinse as close as poss without spraying over (pencil jets rule in my opinion).I use vikan sill brush for upstairs swipe from left to right but same direction each time sweep muck one way only expect to lose customers with crap paint they not worth hassle and watch out for anodised or powder coated aluminium frames.dont know if you are van or trolley assume trolley if so you will soon work out best place to position reel for quickest way to do job as for gates etc same as usual climb over and run hose over under or through dont forget your ladder i use mine more for getting over gates or leaning over to unlock than anything else

Have to second the vote for the pencil jets in my limited experience for domestic work. Much easier to control where the water goes, especially when working on the top frame.

Hi Ronnie

Probably was me, Dave has been a great help to me.

I have a classic voice mail message I need to get on here somehow. It is some guy threatning to kneecap me one dark night.

Altogether I have had about 15 calls now, all going to damage me in some way or another. The last one was funniest, he said I 'better hope I never bump into him', I said 'right, tell me where you are right now, I will come and see you'. He wouldn't! They are all cowards that hide behind a withheld number. Thankfully I didn't put my home address on my leaflet so at least I can sleep easy at night.

Go for a good finish over speed as the speed will come eventually, regardless.
