conversation killer
« on: November 04, 2007, 08:58:56 am »
Doctor asked me what i did for a living the other day, when i told him it was like i wasn't in the room. Went to a funeral and got chatting to an ex workmate who was a managing director now - same thing, certainly opens your eyes to the snobs of this world. Ever happen to you? Do you worry about your kids at school when the inevitable happens when the teacher asks everyone what their dad does for a living? :-\

It's happened to me loads of times.  I think it's quite funny when they say "That's OK !!" as if they are trying to hide what they are really thinking.  One day I think I'll say that I'm a slaughterhose assistant.  That'll get them going  ;D

Doesnt bother me!.....When my lad gets asked in school, he tells them and also a girl in his class tells everyone her dads a window cleaner too, his a multi millionaire out of it.....so im not embarrassed.

I send my lad to a private school, and the funny thing is, i clean a lot of the mum and dads houses, and i get to know them quite well, a lot say tht they admire me.

At at the moment one of them whose got the bentley, ferrari, and a putting green alongside his drive is getting done for money laundering at the moment, so, when his done his time, think i'll offer him a job....!!!

That not bother me to much at all (very rarly does it get to me anymore, they have very small minds, there are many types of window cleaner, the one they refer to is the guy that goes out window cleaning for beer money uses a clapped out car and does a bad job. Others look professional and run a good business that makes good money.
Fair play to them, if they think we are all the same I am not going to correct them.
Is funny when you bump into them in a classy restaurant, you are out of work uniform and in nice clothes, they then speak in a different tone.
Have to use my car when I go to them as my wife will not go out in my van  :'(, now I thought thats a good idea advertising in the car park of nice restaurants  ;D

most people live in sin with thier credit cards anyway, what you you rather? work for 16k a year, staring out of a window working for some middle aged div with an ego probelm. or be a scummy WC that can afford to live as he wants? ;)

Most people haven't got the balls to take the plunge and work for themselves, thier dreamers, no hopers, and believe we are scum!

i earn a load more then them, go home when i want, go on holiday when i want, and buy things out of available cash i have in the bank and not off my credit card that i keep abusing cause i can't afford.

I let them think what they want, if they can't see how i live, or work out the maths on how much i earn then their the fools not us scummy window cleaners ;) ;D

W/C are as rare as poo from a rocking horse, so I'm proud of what I do, and I don't give a toss of what people think of me as a W/C,  a regular and reliable w/c are a rare breed.

Just one more thing?  I clean my doctors house windows, he's a great guy and treats me with respect, he doesn't have the time or inclination to do his own windows.

There is nothing wrong with being a WC but some people seem to equate how much you earn  to somehow validate their choice of occupation....possibly some inferiority complexes.  ;)

At the end of the day all we do is clean windows,  no-one would miss us if we weren't there.

Whereas lower paid vocations are jobs I have respect for, people like nurses and teachers.
Cheers,
Neil

Ah, now I have a newish (56 plate) Doblo for work so it's too small to be a gippomobile but the family car is an L reg Rover 600 - everyone gives way for that! ;D

I respect gypsies they make good money, the way they go about it sometimes is not the right way but i am no person to judge them, but dont knock them for it.
I want to make myself known more thats all, dont want to be seen as anything apart from a professional window cleaning company.  and advertising/Marketing is a strong point of mine did if for many years and still do it now. By the way gypsies if you did not know are one of the cleanest tidest people I have even met.

Whoever made the comment to disrespect them> you want to hope they dont read this or know where you live as they can be law unto themselves.

My 2 closest friends are Scientists (both Biologists) and their wifes are both Doctors. I became friends with them when I worked with them a few years ago in a medical devices company.
All of my '2nd level' friends ie friends that I see and socialise on a regular basis but are not as close as the 4 above are all Scientists or have some degree. Not one of them have EVER looked down on me for window cleaning and most of them are envious of the freedom and stress free lifestyle I have.

Funny though, Whenever I do get people looking down at me, They are the people that have no qualifications but have got menial office jobs. Because they get to wear a suit they feel they have progressed up the corporate ladder and proud that they earn £16K pa. Bless 'em

Just tell people that you specialise in removing environmental debris from silicone dioxide without the use of polychlorinated byphenols (substances found in detergent).
