i have a couple houses and every day i am building up more but today i had a new lady who has asked for her windows to be done every other month or 6 weeks should i do this or stick to my guns and say fortnightly or monthly or just do untill i'm busy and then drop her.

If it helps, I work a 5 week routeen.  If people say could you make it every 6 weeks or 3 months or whatever, I tell them It could be 5 weeks or 10 weeks.

Some would say stick to your guns but if you are building a business then every customer is important and it seems silly to cut off your nose to persue a principle.  I now have about 15 x 10 week customers that I try to do all the same week every 10 weeks.  I have charged them all slightly more than I would normally on this basis.

just say "i do them every 4 - 6 weeks depending on the weather" this leaves it slightly more open, we do this and do them every 5 weeks, the people who want them doing every 4 weeks are happy and the people who want them done every 6 weeks just think your a few days early

every1 is a winner

Whatever you frequency you decide, you need to ensure you are doing multiples of ie:

All of ours are 3 weekly - if this is too much for them the next option they have is 6 weekly, 9 weekly, 12 weekly when you're back in the area to do the 3 weeklys.

Some people wanted it 4 weekly or monthly and in the early days we provided for them.  However as the business built we have learnt to our cost that having different rotas is impossible to stick to.  You end up with having one week in 4 where you are trying to put 8 days work into 5

Don't let them dictate when they want it, if you do, you may find you are able to cope short term, but by the time you have built up a full rota you'll regret it.  We have only recently managed to get everyone on a 3 weekly cycle.

Plus in an ideal world - 3 weekly equal 17.33 cleans per year - £17,333/year  for every £1,000 worth of houses

Whereas on a 4 weekly clean you would only get maximum 13 cleans per year = £13,000 for every £1,000 worth of houses

Thats potentially £4,333 pa more, without  the hassle of knocking on doors trying to get more work to keep you and your staff busy!!

Keep it simple and keep busy!

i have 4 weeks of work which i do either 4 weekly or 8 weekly. i do have the odd job that is 3 monthly or 12 weekly but these are few and far between and i sting them for that luxury! So we are both happy!

Like Matt i say we will be around 4-6 weekly this allows for holidays and bad weather etc. So if im on time as i usually am all is well and if im late no-one panics to much!

Now my round is "full" I sometimes offer monthly in spring/summer but every two months in winter - allows for shorter winter days and lets me use longer summer ones.
It's a game of three halves!

We have just dropped all of ours from 3 weeks to 4 weeks for the winter period, can't see a thing after about 3:15pm, will go back to 3 weeks in March when the days get a bit longer.

When the time comes when you are booked up, the importance of having all your domestic customers on the same rota, will become evident.
It's the commercial customers that you have to be flexible with.

With domestic work I have always worked off a 4 weekly round and any multiples thereof.
With commercial work, some of it is twice weekly so you have to adjust accordingly.
But with domestic work, whether you base your round on 3, 4 or 5 weekly turnaround, ensure that any new customers you take on are in multiples of your basic round. I have never known a customer not conform. If your round is 4 weekly and they want it 6 weekly, they will either go for 8 weekly of 4 weekly once you tell them how your particular system works.

ours are all either calendar monthly or 2 monthly...this is easier for the computer to generate customer due lists.
