i think it depends RYS what you want from it? if you want it as a billboard to gain work go bigger, if you want it as part of a professional image then it can be more discrete. I prefer the latter but i know a lot of other guys will want it as free advertising.

Yeah I like the quieter/professional route personally. The wording is unclear on pic...it reads:

top: residential-commercial-industrial

bottom: fascias-conservatory roofs-guttering

Son of Formby,
I don't think you got many replies because of what you just said, you can't see it.

Your reasoning of going a more subdued route is okay so long a this fits with who your customers are.

Who are your customers? That's what tells you if this approach is correct.

Most of my customers are residential, but I am looking to pick up some commercial work, If and when I can. I think the 'IN Your Face' style is not a good look personally and a simple professional looking design is fine for who I want to attract, and anyway if even if others on here think In Your Face is OK thats up to them, and that is their taste, you have to be happy with your own image.
On a side note, I wear a T- Shirt with my company name on it at the mo, but am looking for something a little more professional, collared t-shirts, fleeces, caps etc, if anyone knows a good quality, decent priced place, please let me have the web address.

Thanks

Lee

from a marketing point of view in your face is better, as a start up you need to get your name known, I have in your face marketing always and I have been running years, I look professional and I am also in your face as you never know who is looking and you need to catch everyones attention, this is my opinion on this  ;)

I agree that as a start up you need to maximise your potential, but i believe subtlety and repitition to gainmore exposure creates a more professional image, but if your targeting domestics then be bold but be subtle, you can drive round in a billboard if you want but if your clear, bold, simple and easy to read that works just as good!

it horses for courses and i believe the subtle horse would win this race  ;) ;D

for more commercial approach subtle image hands down every time!!

this is all my own opinion of course  :P

thats my point Nat and i DID NOT THINK FOR A SECOND YOU WAS KNOCKING ME, EVERYONE WORKS DIFFERENT, SOMETHINGS WORK FOR ONE AND NOT FOR ANOTHER, I HAVE AN ADDED ADVANTAGE BECAUSE OF THE DOMAIN NAME I HAVE, AND IN YOUR FACE MARKETING HAS ALWAYS DONE ME WELL, AS I HAVE THE TALK TO BACK IT UP  ;)
