limestone floor/grout clean
« on: November 06, 2004, 08:06:21 pm »
am quoting for a builders clean on house that suffered flood damage, most of house has been redone, kitchen floor is limestone natural finish, part of spec is to clean the grout which looks dark brown but should be cream. I need to know what to use to clean grout without marking the limestone.

I need to submit quote early next week.

ps, house is a three storey mansion.

i think the phrase nightmare comes to mind.

weve had staining like this and in our case the the staining had cone deep into the grout, even though its waterproof.

i think in the end the client had to rake out and regrout, because it just wasnt worth it.

i would look at trying a test section first before submittign the quote.

we alsways carry out full site surveys on any job and take photos for records, any special areas we will then carry out a test to ensure that the result can be achieved that the client will agree to.

nothing worse than quoting a job then the task being able to be done correctly

regards

martin

You must be sure the floor is completely dry in the first instance.

As for cleaning the grout you can buy a variety of grout cleaners, but these tend to be not so friendly to the stone. I usually get great results with a steam cleaner and a small but firm brush. It is not a quick job so in pricing make sure you allow yourself enough time. If the grout has become too badly stained then there are grout colourers you can use, or else simply rake out and replace for the best results.
