I had a lady say 'not today please' because her husband was in one room wjth a business partner. I said 'well I'll just leave that window' No she still didn't want it.
I'm willing to bend on some things but this wasn't good enough and she is dumped.

Shame it was a £20er but she has messed me around before.

She already dumps me for 2 months in summer when she swans off to France and I've been willing to let that go but i just thought that this time it was lame and she had to go. You could call it being to sensitive or if I let it go again someone else would think I was a mug.

Dont get me wrong it annoys the hell out of me but i just dont let it get to me and dont take it personally. i hate people wasting my time. But this is life. Business is stressfull if you let it be. The money coming in takes the stress away for me. There a lot worse things you can do than listen to me. I do know what im talking about i wouldnt be so confident if i wasnt 100% sure it works. Im probably alot younger than you guys but the knowledge that ive learnt and the way that i run my business you will do well to mimic. window cleaning doesnt just have to be a stress free job with no one to answer to cos that can just make you lazy. Every single day do at least one thing other than cleaning windows that can improve your business. Time is priceless!

That's quite an assumption.  It seems good business sense to ditch customers who mess you about and take on ones who don't.  Eventually you have a business full of people who don't mess you about.  I could have an over full round if I were prepared to doing business with customers who do not wish to honour their verbal contract.  Instead I have customers who are prepared to honour it.  It's very unusual for me to get sent away these days meaning that I have less wasted time in my business.  The last time I was sent away from anywhere they were having a drive laid and there was no way to access most of the windows.  No problem with that of course.  These things happen.

Every one on this site should have one goal in mind  EXPAND EXPAND EXPAND!!

Why?

Perhaps some have done all the expanding they to?

Maybe you havent, but maybe some are further down the road than youve managed.

I now ask people to sign a contract. It states that if I turn up for the clean and I have not been notified in advance of cancelation, payment is still forthcoming.

I also put a work schedual + costs etc.

Since doing this I have had no problems.

Newby customers know that I mean business. They tell me they like the professionalism.

had one guy who expected me to go through his neighbours garden and over a 7 foot fence to get round the back!!!
when i said i wasnt prepared to clamber over this fence he started ranting about how if i didnt want the work this was fine, would be after id done the front wouldnt it,never got paid and he started banging on about he used to be a window cleaner and he use to have to do it to earn a crust,
