Does anybody price cleans per week?
« on: October 25, 2007, 09:45:09 pm »
Do any cleaners on here price on a per week basis??

It seems that most quote on a price per clean, why?? is this just the way its always been done?

Now that windows dont need cleaning as often ( general consensus on here anyway) do you think a different way of quoting work is possible?

If the customer was given a weekly price for the job wouldnt that make things easier? Most people tend to budget weekly so for example if the window cleaning were to cost £2 a week for 12 windows on a 3 bed semi that would sound extremely good value for money.

If you clean every 6 weeks thats £12  every 8 its £16. Basically the cleaning frequency is upto you but the custy pays the £2 a week. The £2 a week should be all that matters to the customer, they use your expertise to decide how often you need to call to keep the windows clean and upto your standard.

What do you think ?

Hmmm. But there would have to be a minimum number of weeks to make it viable. Thay may say every week please at that price. Then you would do six cleans for 12 pounds which would be  insane. But its a good idea if you are six weekly ( like me) and they want it more frequently. It would up the price big time for every other and put them of it.

The cleaning frequency is upto you, you basically offer to keep their windows clean for 12 months of the year.

I wouldn't like this idea myself because if i got people to agree to a price per week they would probably expect their windows to be at least checked if not cleaned on a weekly basis.
It would be great if you could turn up 4/6/8 weekly but the reality is that a bird will sh!te on a window within a day or 2 of cleaning.
I don't see, unless you checked windows on a weekly basis that you could guarantee clean windows for the year.
And if you did check on a weekly basis your fuel expenses would be several times more than doing once a month.
I can only see an administration headache with high fuel costs if the customer was of the mindset of paying weekly (for a weekly service if necessary).

The basic idea is that on a price per week basis the customer agrees to a set weekly figure, if they are paying per clean and feel that their windows dont need doing as often they may feel that they are being "ripped off".

But if they pay per week then you dont need to visit as often, gain a better rate per visit and can take more time when you do visit to justify the price you charge.

Its not an invitation to call round everyday to make sure a bird's not sh*t on the windows. Obviously the customer is made aware of this from the start.

"The method we use to clean your windows means they stay cleaner for longer, so we can save you money by not having to call as often. Using the old method of cleaning would cost you £3 a week but this way it will only cost you £2. etc etc"

It wouldn't work as a business model IMO because human nature being what it is, you would have customers phoning you all the time insisting that their windows are cleaned too frequently.

So you're saying the less often you clean, the more money they have to pay you ???

I'll clean them all once a year and charge them £104 ;D

Human nature means that this could never happen.

Erm or maybe call once every 5 years eh??.

There is a sensible balance to this, every 6/8 weeks for instance.. Also you may find you dont get moaners regarding the rain or not this time thanx.etc etc.

your perception of clean might be totally different to theirs so i can't see it working. You turn up have a look then tell them they don't need cleaning today?  ???

Sounds a bit like role reversal to me.
Imagine it now.
Window cleaner turns up and says "Not today thankyou"  "£2 please".  I would love a business like that.  Collecting money for fresh air   :)

I appreciate the replies however if you eliminate the extremes of this proposal then maybe it might be a less troublesome way of cleaning when the widows are ready for doing rather than fitting in with your monthly call cycle. Comments I have read on here recently seem to indicate that customers are getting unsettled because a cleaner is calling to clean their windows when they feel they dont need cleaning.

There must be a happy medium, you visit once a month because you want their money ie you want a job that produces £x per year. but maybe you would be financially better off if when you did clean their windows you received a higher hourly rate, without the customer getting p****ed off with you.

You are basically changing the call frequency to one which the customer prefers without losing the money. And if you did lose a small ammount because the cleaning frequency was longer then maybe with all that extra time on your hands you can clean new work.

Or maybe  not.

Alot of people charge more for cleans longer than monthly. Longer frequencies between cleans demand higher prices.
At the end of the day, whether you break the yearly charge into monthly / weekly or 2 monthly charges doesn't matter a jot if the customer is happy paying it.
It's the idea of paying weekly and then not seeing you for another 6 weeks which would confuse / irritate me as a customer if a bird had shat on my window a couple of days after you have been.
But you'll never know until you try it yourself.
