To clean or not to clean
« on: October 20, 2007, 10:17:46 pm »
Had a quote to do today. Went along to see the lady, asked to see the back of the house so I could give a price. She said 'i am not prepared to open the back gate so you will have to come in'. I did and she proceeded to point out the downstars windows from the hall and tell me what was upstairs, obviously my need to see them was over ridden by her not being arsed to open the gate.

I gave my price based on what she told me (mistake I think now), £10.00. She said she couldn't understand why I was twice as expensve as the last cleaner. Where is he then I asked, she said she dumped him as she had the one before him because they 'didn't meet her high standards'. Eventually she agreed to the price but as I was leaving I saw her share a sly smile and expression with her husband when she though I wasn't looking. I suspect it is a one off but she is too nasty to be up front.

Don't think I will bother with that one seeing as I got a pile of others today.

If she's like that on the quote she will be a nightmare afterwards.

Yes, generally the mad ones are female. Have another one who has put my leaflet in her window but absolutley refuses to come to the door, have even see her looking out the top window at me. Why put it in the window and leave it there then?

Apart from that, if the customer would need to open the back gate in order for you to do the quote, how you meant to clean the back windows when they are out?
If a potential customer phones me for a quote and starts trying to get me to quote when they are at home, I just say "No problem.  I will just leave my quotation through your letter box if no-one is home".  If they then say that they need to be in for me to get access to see the back windows, I just ask them how I would access the back windows for cleaning if they are out.  If they start going on about how they are usually in etc etc, I just thank them for their enquiry and decline to quote.  That bit about putting the quote through their letterbox saves me a lot of wasted journeys.

That potential customer sounds like she would be a real pain.

easy way to stop that happening again is charge double for the first clean, that way if they are pulling a sly one at least you earn from it  ;)

just clean it , it is all part of the job, it might come to nothing or perhaps she could end up becoming a good customer who will pass on loads of reccommendations.

Your job is to clean windows not physco-anylize.

What have you got to lose ?

I understand what you are saying but I likle a nice peaceful life. I don't think I want to take on someone who has what looks like a good potential to disrupt that for £10.00 a month.

As for physco-anylize, surely that is something we all do every time we meet someone new whether we realise it or not.
