i was thing of advertising the the yellow pages, i know that it is fairly expensive but it could get the break that i need. 
 
anyone used the yellow pages and how did you find it?

I advertise in it, I get more calls for jobs that are not in my area. You just need one good job from it and it has paid for itself.

Trying again this year new book is out soon so it might bring in a few more calls

I do a paid ad in Yellow Pages.  I have picked up a few good jobs from it and a few more OK ones so it has been worth doing.  However, I may have picked those same jobs up with a one line free ad too.  I have no way of knowing.
I do get a lot of enquiries that I don't follow-up.  This is because the housing stock in my home town is mostly terraced houses with the oinly access through the house.  If it weren't for the housing layout, I would have had a lot more jobs from it.

have you found that you get more domestic or commercials? i get allsorts of domestic, some i can take some i can't, i have had a few commercials from it as well, i find that i have my time wasted on quoting commercials then nothing materialising from it but thats part and parcel, but as they say you have to be in it to win it!

I get more domestic enquiries than commercial.
The two commercial jobs I picked up are worth over £1,500 a year.  So it's been worth it even before adding on the domestic work.
A lot of time wasted following up commercial work where I think they were just fishing though.
