Don't think so.
Mine is 2 years old and gets used nearly every day, no problems at all, still with varistream mk1

I don't use a varistream, wonder if that prolongs the life of a pump. I have 2 pumps in the van as my wife works with me a day a week & the pump that has just died was always a lot noisier than the other one, but also had a more powerful flow rate. Perhaps it was set too high & just burnt out?

Any ideas?

It's a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question really.  I've heard of shurflo pumps going that soon and I've heard of them going on for years.  I suppose it can be oretty random really.
However Paul, I don't know what hose you use but I believe that Shurflo won't guarantee their pumps now if microbore is used so I imagine there must be a reason for that.  If you use microbore, you may wish to make another choice of pump brand.

I've just gone to mini-bore (8mm id) after 3.5 years with 1/2" hose & can tell straight away that the pump has to work harder to push water through the smaller bore.

Yes this quite normal for a Shurflo. However so is them lasting for 4+ years, it seems to be completely random!

I know of people using microbore hose, shurflo pump, and no varistream and they have lasted for years. On the other hand I know of those who have used varistreams, standard hose and they have lasted a much shorter time.

I have heard (williamson pumps may correct me) that Shurflo pumps are only warranted when with used with an electronic flow control.

I have always used a Flojet pump with no flow control at all. So far I have used 7 of them in our vehicles, trailers and trolley.

2x60psi which served for 4 years on a twin pump set-up, 1 pump per 100m of microbore. (they are now in the vehicle as fully working spares)

1x 100psi to replace the above set-up now about 1 year old. I did have to fit a new pressure switch as the one it came with was faulty.

1x 60psi which was on a 2x 60m microbore set-up this pump lasted for 3.5 years on 5 days a week use, it died of old age (started leaking fluids!)

1x 100psi to replace the above set-up, now 1.5 years old.

1x100psi on a trailer set-up running 2x 100m of microbore lasted for 4.5 years before running noisily and pumping slower.

1x 100psi to replace the above set-up now on about 2 years, I have had to hit the pressure switch a couple of times when it has stuck in the off position!

1x 60psi on my original trolley set-up 6.5 years ago with 1x 60m microbore, I only used this for 2 months (do not like trolleys), sold it to a mate who used it for 3 months before selling it to another mate who used it for 4 months who then took the pump out to use in a van, he then sold it on to someone else who is still using it on a part time basis.

All of the above were Flojet pumps, with pre-pump strainer, with no electronic control. I use flow valves on my poles. All I have done to them is set the pressure switches up to match my exact system.

Does anyone know what happens when the pressure switch goes?. Every now and then my pump starts pumping when theres no pole attatched to the hose, and theres no leakes either, its like the tank has run out of water.

Most pumps and pressure switch combo's will do this. Sometimes the pressure in the hose system drops a little and it just switches on momentarily to bring it back up. Shouldn't do it too often though.

The other problem is that you may well have a small air leak pre-pump.

When a pressure switch goes it will either switch on permanently or not switch on at all. A pressure switch is only a sprung loaded switch, so it will with age stick sometimes. Also as they get older the firmness of the spring can change so the setting on the switch may need tweaking.

Yeh I'm good Dave thanks for asking. Have to own up & admit I've not been on the site for ages, being really busy & having no problems with system, is the reason.

As regards the pump, it has started working again for some reason, checked all the wiring & it seems to be in order, so not sure really. Oh & it's not a Sureflo it's a Flojet.

Not sure which of the 2 has the best reputation?
