Yep thats me I'm the new bank in town. People think I'm here to lend them money. "oh can I pay next time?" "oh sorry I haven't got two pennies to rub together" " a cheque for ten pounds your joking!" Self addressed envelopes "sorry we lost it" most of them can't be arsed to walk to the letterbox. "oh can't pay this month we've spent too much on holiday" Then there's the ones who are never in. I've been round six times to one and can't catch him. Thats it I'm off to Tescos - but they will have to wait 'till next time before I pay them!

If you have a full or nearly full workload it's always possible to drop the persistently bad or very slow payers.  I have very few of these now and the ones I do have know that I won't do a third clean until an account is brought up to date.  Therefore, no-one ever owes me for more than two cleans.
What I find though is that once the cashflow is reasonable, it's like a revolving door.  Payment shortfalls this time around are being compensated for by double payments from the previous time.  However, what I will not stand for is someone who will NEVER send a cheque or P.O. and can't be bothered to do an interbank transfer.
I've actually written debt off to get rid of bad payers as it's cheaper in the longterm.

You are right shiner. The business books agree that your worst customers, for whatever reason, consistently cost you money.

The other ones that wind me up are the people who start scratching through their purse and pay £10 in coins. And sometimes "I've only got £8.50, can I pay you the extra next time?"
