Hi,

As i am now getting my water fed equipment all sorted and already bought some stuff RO/PUMP/VARI/ etc and looking to get using it over the next 4 - 6 weeks.

BUT..

looking for a pole now am not sure what to go with i havent got tuns of money 2 spend and i dont want 2go n buy a crap pole thats dead heay that i wont be able to use properly i dont mind abit of weight just not something you carnt control.

 so the question what sort of poles are best? not 2 heavy looking for a sort of 27foot one to do 3 story work with and  a smaller one for normal houses and grounds would 18foot be ok??. All the names confuse me like all these X-tell poles etc.

I was looking at the buy one get one free from BMS but heard there not really worth the money haha  :

So any help would for me or pointers would be very helpful.

How long a pole do you need to reach your highest windows? If you can get away with a 24ft pole for all your work, your life will be easier getting a pole which is made up of sections of 5ft or less. Like the x-tel for example.
Many poles come in 6ft sections and while they are no problem for cleaning downstairs windows a pole that has shorter length (i think x-tel is 4 1/2 ft sections) will make life much easier.
I have a 38ft pole that i have hardly used in 18 months, A 25ft pole in 5 X 5ft sections that i use on a handful of windows each week, an 18ft pole and a 12ft (3X4ft sections) that i use for ups and downs on 95% of my work.
I will be getting a better pole soon and i do like the look of the x-tel or gardiners new superlite.

A ramble but i'm trying to make the point that using 1 pole for ups and downs is the quickest way to get round a job. Poles with 6ft sections are a little tight for some windows where the access is narrow.

I've recently bought a 18' X-tel and for 1st floor and a 12' X-tel for ground floor and highly rate them. They are well priced, light weight and have great clamps that are easy to use. They are much lighter than my old Ionics poles.

however, I wouldnt buy a X-tel pole any longer than 18' as it is very whippy when fully extended but then again I have a heavy 12" (approx) Vikam brush on the end of the 18' and I probably should have a lighter brush (Alex G - please comment)

I also have a 45' Ionics glass fibre pole for 2nd floor abd although it is 18 months old and it is lasting well I will look out to replace it in the next 12 months. Not sure which pole yet, possibly the Facelift Carbon fibre 44' at £794

Hi RO-Sheen,

Choice of brush makes the world of difference to using an X-Tel pole. I regularly use a 21ft X-Tel and find the flexibility quite controllable because I have 220g brush on the end of it.

We are bringing out a new brush in the next couple of months that will be just as light but will have top class bristles on it. The current Super-Lite brush (Bentley) is a very good brush to use and the bristles clean very effectively, but it does have a limited bristle life.

My personal recommendation would be either:

1) Get a X-Tel 17ft (£85 approx) for most of your work. This is a very light pole to use and will do 90% of your domestic work. Then get another pole for your occasional high work, perhaps a 28ft X-Tel (£130 approx)with a lightweight brush would do the trick. Total = about £215 plus Vat and delivery

or

2) If a 24ft pole would reach your high work as well then invest in a 24ft X-Tel Hybrid (£250 approx plus VAT and Delivery) which would do all of your work.

Which of the above choices would I go for?

The first one. To start with it is a cheaper option. It also will be the option that will be easier to work with as the majority of your work time would be spent using the lighter (1.3kg-17ft as opposed to 2kg-24ft hybrid) 17ft pole. Even when you do use the 28ft X-Tel it would only be 600g heavier than the hybrid. The 17ft is also made from much shorter sections so will be enable you to work much more efficiently on downstairs work.

Most of my highest work is around 7 to 8 meters and i do use a ladder for them now footed btw! so there not to high. but i will take on higer work such as the old victorin houses which i dread at the moment not because of height just a pain.

Am not sure on how much money to spend yet but after buying all the system etc i dont want to spend hundreds i see some around about 400 pounds lol. just to start of as alex said around 200 that looks good value for money myself.

The Super-Lite (Bentley) brush that we sell ready jetted, or buy a similar one from a Super-Market and jet it up yourself.

This currently is one of my favourite brushes due to it's light weight and ideal bristle flex.

Going up to a 28ft GF x-tel is obviously gonna be much worse,

I got the 24ft extel hybrid. I've just finished my first week with it.

It makes 3 storey really easy. Its very rigid - bendy poles are horrid, its worth the money to have  a rigid pole. It collapses down small so it does downs with ease and fits in my samll van.

And its light. Its my best ever pole! And i've tried a few. Because I only have up to three storey it looks like the only pole i'll ever use. Get one. 2 kg is light. When you do normal work, most of the sections stay closed so the weights at the bottom so you don't feel it.

It seriously is good. And its nice and rough feeling. For what that's worth.

You say this but what are the alternative poles available at that price? I currently have an 18ft 3 section that came with my trolley from freedom not impressed with and on tip toes when fully extended for some windows so need something longer like 24ft - What pole do you recommend?

Not only the quickest pole you will ever use, your water will go much further.

Poles with 6ft sections are a little tight for some windows where the access is narrow.

Not with angle adaptor + swivel, they're a dodle.

The poles generally come with 8/9 mm pole hose as standard.  On our site this is selected for you when you choose your end connector type.
