It is with deep regret........
« on: September 17, 2007, 07:11:39 pm »
That I have to finally admit that Tony (macmac) is actually right. Today I noticed one section of my Superlight felt a little "spongy" and sure enough it had a split in the third section from ground. I already had to repair section two ah well. Went to slide the top section back into the van and caught the ribbing section in the roof - result - shattered top section ****ocks! So it looks like I'm not suited to Superlights and will now have to buy something like a Carbon F******ft!
Luckily I still have my cheap as chips trusty fishing poles (Reload) to see me through.
So what to buy for thirty five to forty feet?

Hi Davew

Yes the Facelift are very very good poles but I reckon the Hybrid x-tel give them a good run for their money.

I use the 28ft, I went for these because they have a shorter length than the facelift when closed and IMO are a little easier to handle and store in my van. There’s also a big difference in price. So far this pole has been the dogs for me.

Have a look at Alex's site for all the specs www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk

We'll wait for The Chosen One to have his two penneth. ;D

Good to see you still with us Tony :)

I have a facelift and i am completely happy with it but the x-tel pole does look good and if i was looking for a pole just now i would give it some serious thought just on price alone it looks good

I bought some dirt cheap carbon poles from ebay specifically for repairs but the tapers seem different. The Superlight is a splendid pole to use but utter crap for strength and after today I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy! (i'll calm down in an hour or two!) :(

Use one or two  Reload sections as a replacement for now, if its to thin or thick just wrap pvc tape round till it fits like a glove in the right place . All the fishing poles are interchangeable really. Did you have the reinforced glass fibre No4 from the Zensor flex as a protector for your Maver top section ?
The replacements for the defunct reload are now called the Ron Thompson Gangster see the Chesh fishing site.

No Jeff, This was a megabucks one from Gardiners that only comes out of the van on special occasions to reach where my Reload won't go.

Sorry mate, couldnt resist.
Only thing i'll say dave is, take your time in choosing your new pole whatever it will be & that what may seem expensive now will pay you back in many ways very quickly.
The only problem you have is that you've already been spoiled by the lightness of your modular pole but i'm sure, if you make a good choice you'll see that the benefits of good telescopic for domestic work will out weigh this. ;)

I agree with that, the fishing poles are brill to use but for anything under 30ft i would now use a telescopic.Your soon get used to using the facelift or Hybrid pole but what i would say is the spares on the facelift don`t seem to be as available as they are on the hybrid.

Never needed a spare for mine dude :D, cleantech sell all spares for facelift poles as do facelift themselves.

Tony, thanks mate (thats more like it). I've got some jobs where the Superlights are so light that I can clean things like skylights on the back of three story buildings reaching over the roof can you do that with yours? I have a twenty four foot glassfibre exell pole chucked in my garage in disgust. I don't want a wrestling pole. Pity there is nowhere to try before you buy.

What do you mean "i'm not suited to superlight poles"!
Surely if its sold as a window cleaning pole, then thats what it should do regardless of who you are?

What I'm saying is it's a beautifull pole to use you won't find anything else thats so easy to use. Its so rigid that you just point it at the window and clean at silly angles. BUT drop one or knock one and it's goodnight pole. So some people like Alex seem to work all day no trouble but me...... ::)
Mind you the Superlight 2 is coming out so that could be worth looking at.

Davew you don`t need to try before you buy with the facelift mate, you won`t be dissapointed.I would still buy the superlite 2 aswell though for the higher work, the new version is more robust and can cope with the day to day work as well as just high commercial stuff.

The facelift is never going to be a super-light dave (uless you compare it to your glass pole in the garage).
It's a shame you can't have a go of someones or go to a supplier to try one.
If you've only a few jobs at 40ft you'll be fine but if you've a lot of work at this height then, like i said, you've been spoiled a bit.
But i'm sure for normal domestic work, say upto 24ft, you'll very much appreciate the vast benefits a carbon telescopic offers over modular & i can assure you, you'll not break the facelift! ;)
