Canvassing for Work
« on: October 18, 2004, 08:23:04 pm »
Hi All

I have done quite a few years door to door selling. I have sold everything you can imagine and the best results I have found to generate work is to do the following.

1.  Dress smartly but not over the top, a tie is a must. (The older generation respect this the most)

2.  Don't canvess in the rain or snow because all the potential customer is thinking, is to get rid of you and get back into the warmth.

3.  Only canvass at these times Monday - Friday 16.30hrs to 18.30 and Saturdays 13.00 - 18.30.  Don't do Sundays.

4.  Never stand on the doorstep always stand at least 2 paces away and face the opposite way to the door, so when they open the door they don't feel threatened.

You then turn around slowly with a smile and a friendly greeting.

5.  You then can explain what you are doing there, try to keep it short and to the point, what I say and It works for me is.

Hello sir/madam I'm from Samvic Cleaning Services and I'm looking to find some customers to fill up my list in this area for Window Cleaning, would you be interested in having your windows cleaned on a regular basis?

They will then either say yes/no or how much?  You then quote them for the work they want doing and try to impress on them everything that you do and don't do.

If they say no, say thank you and here is my business card if you change your mind or if you know anyone who might want a window cleaner.

If they say how much, then they want it done so you then have to sell them on you level of service not on what you charge.

When you do give a price don't say a word after you have told them, just look them in the eye, smile and keep quite, let them make the next comment, if its a negative, ask them what they require from a window cleaner and at what price.

It then up to you.

I hope you find this usefull
