Whos got full insurance cover? (Poll)
« on: October 14, 2004, 08:49:31 pm »
This poll is anonymous- so answer truthfully please.

Insurance cover is split into several categories.

1. Public Liability insurance  including items being worked on will cover you for damage that you cause to your customers carpets or upholstery.

A lot of policies have a limit of about £5000 per item, others cover up to about 1 million.

When cleaning commercial carpets you are often dealing with areas that would cost well in excess of £5000 to replace!

2. Public Liability insurance- covers you for damage caused to household possesions like pottery, glass, tvs.
It does not cover you for damage that you cause to carpets and upholstery when cleaning.

A basic public liability policy should cost about £80.  All risks (items worked on) may cost £400 or more.

Most carpet cleaners in the UK only have the basic cover.

All risks cover can be difficult to get. Only specialist brokers are able to arrange it.

thanks

Is this a defiant wake up call I thought my home insurance covered this new for old, as when I had an accident on my bike a few years ago they paid for it! ;D

Something to think about.

Most policies don't cover for spraying a protector...check it out

Are you covered for giving advice to customers?
If something goes wrong when they do what you suggest...could be a claim!

Yes, I am covered for these eventualities too...but I bet there is something somewhere that is missing

How much do you pay for insurance?

I read of people shopping around and coming up with very low figures.. I have to question their level of insurance

In a straw poll at Carpex on this very subject the consensus went into four figures.....makes you think!

It would be very interesting to compare the price that people are paying for full liability cover with a limit of £5000 per item, to what others pay, for the same type of policy, but with a far higher limit per item.
