Bad Urine Smell
« on: July 14, 2007, 05:03:00 pm »
Hi All

I have been asked by a customer to sort out the terrible Urine smell comming from their Gents Toilets, The pub is a heavy drinking sort of pub where hygiene has never been a priority (until now) so I hope you can visualise the state of the toilets, Put it this way I wiped my feet on the way out of the pub ;D. What is the best way to tackle this job and get the toilets odour free and smelling fresh, I know the odour will come back in time due to the customers with drunken aims. I really want to impress this prospective customer as I believe it will lead on to a lot of work...

Any help and advice would be great

Thanks

Duncan

Hi

This is obviously from stale urine.

Again for the stench i would go in with sta kill (a powerful bacteriacide & odour killer)or a powerful urine neutralizer then probably steam clean the place.

Place a timed air freshner over the door (attached to the wall) and some fresh blocks in the urinials (ask for the contract for a regular clean)

P.S. approach your local pro supplier for washroom cleaners.

Martin

help me out if you will....urine soaked bathroom carpets...? Any suggestions (other than removing the germ-ridden stinky old piles of rancid floor coverings)?

I use Zoflora in a spray but it don't last long....

Cheers

HI Stephen

Have a look on the carpet forum.

If they are soaked in urine then it may be best to replace with lino, as the stains will more than likely stay.  You will also have to replace or treat the boards underneath, if concrete then wash down with the sta kill above.

I used the Sta kill in a squat, amazing gear.

Still amazes me that carpet is still used in bathrooms and kitchens, (the two worst places) we had them here when we moved in.

Hey martin

Thanks for the advice.

As i am going to houses to clean the house (and only vacuum carpets) its not for me to suggest getting lino or what-not put down in bathrooms, and to be honest the need to try and eliminate any smells is for my own benefit and not the clients ( i have an extrodinary strong sense of smell and can't abide bad smells).

The reason people have carpets in this rooms is because they actually like them. I know, i can't understand it either. But there we are. The amount of people who tell me how much they love stepping out of the bath onto a carpet is unbelieveable.

Bless 'em

Cheers

HI

Yep, I understand your point of course, but you also have to advise your clients as the best possible thing for them, they will appreciate your honesty I'm sure, and you still get to clean the area, mopping.

Hey Martin

There are some things i can tell a client, and there are some things i can't. There's honesty and there's knowing my place  :D

I have to say i dont think many of them would be too pleased if i said the bathroom carpet was a tad pis*y  lol  ;D

I have, on occasion, pointed out to people who i know really really well that there is the 'occasional' doggie smell, but on the whole most houses i clean stink to high heaven anyway.

I just get on with it...

Cheers

to get rid of urine smell in a bathroom carpet first spray with plenty of fibre and fabric rinse (this helps to break down the urine).
extract then spray plenty of urine neutraliser (and i mean a lot)
extract with fibre and fabric rinse (sprinkle some powdered defoamer on carpet first.)
this should do the trick but if bad can take a second visit so price it in or explain one visit may not do the job.
by the way there is no point beating around the bush, if it smells p##sy then tell them so(but break it to them gently ).

Hi dirtbuster

I'm a domestic house cleaner, doing lots of regular work, i dont clean carpets. i just wondered if there was anything i could quickly put over the offending carpet other than a blast of Zoflora or a shake of 'shake n vac' etc.

Cheers

HI

Well, if you put it like that, then yes expect then to get annoyed! ::)

Just explain to them that it would be more cost effective to replace with Lino and this would be easier to clean and won't be full of dirt, and other bodily functions, and if they want that pklush feeling they can put down a rug.

If you do not want to go this way, spray all over with Sta kill or a powerful carpet deodourizer and do that once a month or so.

I inform my clients what's maybe the better option but at the end it is their choice.

hey martin

I'm gonna track down this sta kill.

I'm not denying that i think you are right about what is and isnt in the clients interests, but in this job where do i draw the line? By asking them not  to put sanitary protection in the kitchen bin, or crappy pants on the bedroom floor  ;D

There is so much i could tell them if i wanted too lol...it's their house at the end of the day, i just get on with it. I personally have little to gain out of bringing such matters to their attention, put it like that  :D

Cheers

I have been asked by a customer to sort out the terrible Urine smell comming from their Gents Toilets

If the urinals are individual units I can recommend this product.

http://www.enviro-fresh.com.au/shop/scdsolution.asp

It really does work and is used at a variety of locations including airports, shopping centres, hotels etc. PHS now have it on board and Initial recently bought the company out so they were able to see the potential.

For removal of odours from carpets Solubac is an excellent product. It contains micro-organisms that digest the source of the odours.

To simply neutralise the odour on a short term basis then Geruch Stop works wonders.
