I shattered my left ankle in 2000 after a fall of just 8ft.
Though my problems are nowhere near as bad as this chap, it has changed the quality of my life and that of my family for the worse. I've had a constant battle with irritability due to the intense pain in the joint ever since when I walk.
I've just had to have my ankle fused because following exploratory surgery on the ankle last June I was left unable to walk without the aid of crutches. My family have been very good in putting up with me and I've got a lot of very good friends some of whom have looked after my work whilst I've been out of action.
So take a lesson. I've been window cleaning thirty years and have always been a very aware of the dangers of ladder work. During that time I have made hundreds of decisions not to do things with my ladders that I considered too dangerous, even to the point of falling out with customers who didn't give a hoot for my safety. However, I made one error of judgement and that's all it took. I'm only glad I didn't do both ankles or something worse.
No matter how safety concious you think you may be, never let your guard down, especially if you use ladders.
