My missus used to work in the spinal in Salisbury, it doesn't bear thinking about the life-style changes someone has to endure through an injury of that nature, nor the daily routines that are needed to keep the body working when the muscles don't, those below the waist line in particular....yes, it has to be manually removed.

But it is also good to see he at least has a positive regard about things now. I doubt my ability to move forward positively if that happened to me.

I watched an old guy sending his lads up the ladder the other day doing 3rd storey windows no safety measures what so ever more accidents waiting to happen ::) >:(

Its a good idea to put all accidents on the forum also when explaining to my customers why ive changed to wfp i tell them how many deaths and accidents are caused by unsafe ladder users.

We have all done some daring things up ladders i`m sure but it`s how soon you wise up to it that counts, when i think back to the stupid things i did using a ladder it makes me cringe.

To me this is the biggest indictment of the Fed going.

They know that wfp does an acceptable (if not better) job and they should be pushing their trad. members to change over.

As usual it's money that counts.

In my view, a self employed man using a ladder above ground floor when he could use wfp is a fool and any employer that sends his men up ladders when there is no need is a criminal. No better than gangmasters.
It's a game of three halves!

I know what you mean
a while ago a neighbour of one of my customers came out enquiring about my "brush on a stick" and told me how her wc climbs off the ladder and walks along the sills of her first floor bay window! I commented on how unsafe that was to which she replied "well it goes with your job, you have to take risks!" :o

His insurance company have refused to pay out, why is this? is it because he used a ladder or did he do something stupid?

Has any ladder cleaner checked with their insurance company, to see if they will pay out, if there an accident? are there any conditions attached whereby they don't have to pay out a claim?

In this day and age are you telling me that if your a wc and you use a ladder and you have a fall you expect an insurance company to pay you compensation, you must be mad.An insurance company will go out of there way to make sure you don`t get a penny if your using ladders regardless of what they`ve told you, theres so many loop holes you wouldn`t beleive it.Ladder insurance for wcs is not worth the paper it`s written on,ask those that have tried to claim.

I shattered my left ankle in 2000 after a fall of just 8ft.

Though my problems are nowhere near as bad as this chap, it has changed the quality of my life and that of my family for the worse. I've had a constant battle with irritability due to the intense pain in the joint ever since when I walk.

I've just had to have my ankle fused because following exploratory surgery on the ankle last June I was left unable to walk without the aid of crutches. My family have been very good in putting up with me and I've got a lot of very good friends some of whom have looked after my work whilst I've been out of action.

So take a lesson. I've been window cleaning thirty years and have always been a very aware of the dangers of ladder work. During that time I have made hundreds of decisions not to do things with my ladders that I considered too dangerous, even to the point of falling out with customers who didn't give a hoot for my safety. However, I made one error of judgement and that's all it took. I'm only glad I didn't do both ankles or something worse.

No matter how safety concious you think you may be, never let your guard down, especially if you use ladders.
