Car Boot Sales
« on: July 08, 2007, 12:45:58 pm »
A friend and fellow W/C Just popped in to say hello to me today, he was telling me his wife had been nagging him for weeks to take some items to a car boot sale, he agreed to do this today and loaded everything into his van and off they went to the boot sale.

While at the boot sale he took 11 bookings for new jobs from 14 enquiries from people just stopping at his stall and seeing his sign written van.

He charges a minimum of £10 so he has a possibility of £110 plus any extra's.

I recon it Just jogs peoples memories when they see the signs,
I still thought it a good idea, if you do car boot sales Just make sure your van in on show, it might pull in some extra work for you.

Hi Jeff,
Thought this was a very good post and looked lonely. I would have thought somebody would have replied to it by now.
I thought of this idea, I wanted to go to car boot with my van, a pole extended skyward(possibly giving it the occassional squirt).
Some large signs windows cleaned,Free quotes, discuss your window cleaning requirements with an expert.Giving leaflets out as a way of getting into conversations. I think it may have flushed out a few cons and gutter cleans too.

The reason I didn't was that my wife was against it, but I was pretty sure that it would work, because people seem to drawn to this subject.Glad it worked for your mate.

Glad to see that it worked for him

;D ;D And there's me thinking everyone had fallen out with me  ;D ;D
I was Just saying to Joeuk45 on the other forum, the boot sale by me is a large show ground, thousands of visitors to the boot sale, it even has a monster truck display there

This is were I think it would pay and thats doing the big boot sales, but you have some very good ideas there.
Like I said he went to sell for his wife not to promote W/C, If you took this on board and set your stall up for W/C advertising, I'm sure it would have pulled even more punters in??

It's a non threatening enviroment. They are not on their doorstep being pestered, they are in control and therefore more receptive and less hostile.
Joe uk could wear a white lab coat and hold a clip board. He would have a hand held TDS meter and several test tubes. One beaker of water would say Your tap water, another de ionised water, another rainwater
Joe would conduct the experiment of getting children to use the hand held TDS to get the variuos reading and then explian why and what total dissolved solids mean't.
Ps tell Joe not to mention the hole in his shed roof.

I can Just picture Joe with his glasses on the end of his nose ;D doing TDS Readings for the public,
I'm sure this would lay some fears to rest with regards to pure water use.

He's geting some good readings from that water that comes through the hole in his roof ;D 8)

I'll email him and get him to give us the readings.

;D ;D you mean a white strap coat he he,  well i am a very happy man, i have solved my pure rain water down to a tee, it sits at 000ppm every time now, no filters or resins, and as much as i can hold, i am sitting on a gold mine no kidding  ;D, the water i have collected, is checked everyday, its still 000ppm, i even stirred it up just to be sure, i have used it on my sister inlaws windows, no spotting and crystal clear, i am going to get a live picture of it, showing me putting the meter on the water sitting on my shed, showing the true reading is 000ppm, even i just can not believe it,
and i was going to demolish it for a new one, no wayyyy lol

Jeff, you must be very close to Shepton? I popped down to the air display on Saturday with the family and got burnt to a crisp. Do you cover Bruton? or any further north?

I'm not that far from shepton mallet, but I don't cover bruton, I have a few in Ilchester and Yeovilton, The furthest I go is to Haynes motor Museum.

I always book one of my customers in, who lives in Yeovilton when the air show is on, we sit in his garden right at the side of the runway. ;D

Oh yes.  I will be doing a boot sale myself in August and had already decided to advertise my business there.  Glad someone else is on a similar wavelength.
The only drawback as far as I can see is that boot salers are usually hunting for bargains and like to haggle.  So long as it's clear that the window cleaning isn't for haggling or at bargain prices then no problem.
