When you are more established and getting higher hourly rates try this. Pay your staff an hourly rate plus an hourly bonus, which is payable every quarter based on time and attendance and no complaints from clients.

It helps to retain staff as they get a nice amount every quarter so they might be less inclined to leave if there's a bonus coming and they should be more inclined to do a good job and not phone in sick when they can't be bothered to come into work.

Your staff are key, I find they all start off great and then once they relize your not there all time interest goes and jobs suffer, unless you can find good ones but when you do find the good ones, they relize they will better off on ther own, leave and take some jobs with them. this has just happened to me. girl has been with me 2 years no problems got on great with her then one day she just didnt turn in then finished, this week so far 4 clients have canceled, it has happened before and it will happen again, got them sealed up with contracts but its not worth the paper its written on. I have monthly meetings for my staff this works really well. regards Phil

Phil, how was it that your clients were willing to leave you...?

I would not be so presumptious to say that my clients would not want to lose me, BUT they have talked of cleaners they had before and said that they would have not left them for any money.

I am sorry to hear this, i would hate to lose clients.

can i ask dg-cleaning in which town are u situated? cause i am working 4 a cleaning compay and personally think that J8 p/h is very good rate,cause this is the maximum rate in my company which is 4 very experienced staff,and u planning to raise the pate.ur employees must b very lucky and u r a generous boss

When you do the cleaning its far far superior then that of a staff member, When ever I have been involved in the cleaning we get glowing reports the problem is when you start  employing staff they will not consistantly clean to those high standards you demand. thats life! when you take the next steps you will see. I run 12 girls 6 teams for house cleans and then I do carpet cleaning, builders cleans, march outs etc, with a further 4 staff, as well as comercial contracts I run with other staff. plus I live 70 miles from my main area of cleaning so its difficult to keep tabs, I pay £7 for drivers and £6 for maids plus the drivers get a milage allowane so they don't do to bad at all. 7 of my staff are polish, I would employ all polish if I could, excellant work ethic no time of work. work work, they want the money and theres no safty net of social payments if they don't work. I am VAT registed so its easy for some one to under cut me whos not. £15 + vat per hour is a lot. some on here charge £10 per hour and still pay staff?when you caharge rates like that you just have to be good, I am not knocking those people who charge £30 a house, but when I come in at £70 for a standard 3 bed you have to be good, you have to offer somthing different, and thats what I do from the estimate through to the cleaning products and systems, we are very professional, but I am sure we all are? kind regards Phil

All my work is guarnteed, if in the event of us missing something we offer to go back, if its to late then we will discount the price if it fel into the remit of the clean. if it has been a total desaster then we won't charge. but like I said I do these types of clean so they are always right.
