Traditional cleaner wanting to change

Hi, I'm a traditional window cleaner and wish to get up-to-date with the latest technology. I do a good job with my leathers and cloths, but these fellows with squeegees seem to rush around much faster than me.

I've a few questions before I take the risk of going 'squeegee and applicator'.

1. Does it really do as good a job?
2. On leaded, don't you use traditional methods anyway?
3. What's the best make of squeegee (I'm worried about leaving streaks) and
4. Would it be possible to DIY? I was thinking of a T shape peice of wood I could knock up in the shed and wrap a bit of rag around for an applicator, would this work? 

Any help would be usefull, I'm hoping to earn more than 50 quid a day. I heard some guys with squeegees earn around a hundred, is this possible.

Oh, and are the running costs reasonable or do they offset some of the profit??

2 no i just use wfp

3 there are no good makes go wfp

4 yeh woods fine, just get a tea towel and wrap it around it

youll be hard pushed to earn £50 mate, but fingers crossed

oh and running costs are ridiculous with them things

I had some old bloke the other month when I was quoting, he said "do you use them new fangled things ( then he did a swivel motion with his hands ) " I said, "you mean a squeegee". He was so behind the times he thought the squeegee was a new invention, I dread to think what would happen if you turned up with a wfp!!!

LWC couldn't trad to save his life,that's why he uses water on a stick. You only have to push up and down no skill needed at all. ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'm trad ( going pole ) and theres no skill to that either, you just clean the frame and clean the glass, infact I believe there is more skill in wfp

Being good with a squeegee is an art.

Jeff Brimble has wfp down to a fine art, he uses less water than some trad people

I also use WFP Luke but prefer Trad, WFP is a tool and a tool only.

On some windows you can use less water,but there few and far between.When the glass is being cleaned WFP the water is acting as a squeegee when you rinse,i find adequate water is needed to do a top job.

What part of "I'm trad ( going pole )" dont you understand :) :) :) no hard feelings. There is a big hotel done wfp near me and the glass looks so nice, it really shines, it just jumps out and grabs your eyes. This building could never have been done trad ( 40ft windows over long roofs etc ). Thats why pole is better, the glass shine is just alot nicer...... and for longer

Yea glass looks good from a distance but get up close and then you will see, and I agree high windows should be cleaned with WFP  for saftey reasons as I do but trad ( and if you know how to trad ) gives better results.
There has always been a them and us on forums regarding trad and wfp but i find the guys who dismiss trad are the ones who are soley wfp, they want to protect their investment.
Also if it wasn't for WFP and it's downsides this forum would be long gone by now.
IMO, and I wait for the backlash. HE HE. :o :o :o

Asboss i don`t think it`s because it gives lots of trouble the pole that is,i think it`s because were all looking for better and more effective ways of using it.It`s also good to here other peoples experiences and how they tackle certain jobs,that video of P&R on you tube is the sort of thing i`d like to see more of.

Too many variables,
watch out for the vents, oxidized frames , aluminimum frames, wont come good for about 2 to 3 cleans, trailing hoses and customers don't like it so they get dumped.I can go on for ever.
Trad: windows in inaccessible places and high windows and that's it.
I am all for WFP as it is safe, anyone can do it even my 14 year old daughter but using a squeegee is an art but i am sure you will argue untill you take your dying breath,

IMO again IMO
