If I was to sell these would you be interested?
« on: June 28, 2007, 08:37:00 pm »
I went into a local firm that specialises in hoses & connectors & saw these, so I bought a couple just to try.

They are brilliant, much better than the flow valves (which are actually gas valves adapted for flexible pipes) supllied by some WFP companies. They are alot sturdier & seem to increase the flow on my pole without using too much water. You can even get the brass tails in different sizes, so they will fit any size of hose.

They are so good it has crossed my mind selling them perhaps on Ebay. What do you reckon?

The problem with those are that they are designed for the gas industry & therefore are made to be attached to a copper pipe, so in order for the olive not to squeeze the plastic hose small inserts are put inside to give it rigidity. They are fine for a while but after a bit they can easily work loose & if you tighten them up too much the olive can easily cut into the hose causing a leak. Don't get me wrong I'm not slagging off Gardiner's gear, I just think I've found a better alternative!

These are specifically designed to restrict the flow of liquids & the brass tails give a much sturdier connection that should last alot longer.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they are fitting for an RO System. I'm talking about a valve fitted to your pole to stop & start the flow to your brush.

Yes but they can be used with micro bore by shaving the hose

Paul, I used those and the plastic piece breaks off in no time. it's also quite heavy for shin-smacking as you reel it in!

I got a similar slightly lighter one from Avonmouth Rubber and Plastics (0117 9826301) with a metal butterfly (wingnut type) handle which has lasted me a year. (Even that has lost half of one of it's butterfly ears in a particularly vicious hose v house corner incident  ;D) From memory it was about £6/7. I wear it in a leather pop stud holster on my hip (bet you're jealous Tosh!)

The ro-man tap is good fitted to the pole near the brush for quick "on-off" work downstairs but you can always fold over the hose instead.
It's a game of three halves!

I`d buy a couple.
My flow valves keep leaking and the pipe keeps getting eaten by the olives

I use them too.

A little tip, get some silicon lubricant, smear a little around the male & couple with the female. My connections last for ages now.

For a tap that works anywhere on your hose, try Algarde silicon air type hose instead, its so fast,  flexible and light.  :)

We have used these for customers where they want a valve on the microbore side of things. They do have the advantage of allowing an end-stop to be screw directly into them, they also  fit any size hose barb. As has been mentioned though the plastic lever is just not as long lasting as the metal lever versions.

From our point of view they also take longer to assemble in the workshop!
