Wood floor- polish flaking
« on: June 25, 2007, 07:24:12 pm »
Hi everyone, I have a little issue with a pre-finnished wood floor (New) that has had one coat of wood floor polish applied to it. Unfortunatly it has started to 'flake' off the wood and the customer is rather unhappy about it. He has asked us to try and sort this little mess out for him..

So I was thinking:

Rotary with Red or White pad (Depending on how bad the polish is)

Then I dont know what to apply to the wood - New polish or what?

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Cheers,
Phil

or you sure it is polish that was applied and not seal, i have never heard of polish flaking.
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt

if it is sealer that is flaking, i would use dry methods to remove as wet method may stainthe timber causing loads of trouble.
chemspec make a product called non sanding prep which you apply with a terry toweling cloth on a flat mop, and then make the RX sealers which are awsome.  can supply if you want but any chemspec dealer would stock it.

If its a new floor then complain to the manufacturer

Sounds very much like it has been sealed, you need to strip the floor back and start again with a good wood product as stated.

You chaps were right. It had been sealed so I used a red pad on a rotary with a very small amount of Alkaline stripper and it can off not too bad. Some of it was in little pieces, the rest can off in big sheets!!.

Then I went over the whole job with a white pad to buff it right off.
