TDS Readings
« on: June 23, 2007, 02:17:00 pm »
Can anyone one help out please?

I have a 300gpd Ro unit with a 15 ltr DI, from Purefreedom which I only use approx 2-3 times a week and have a booster pump to fill my 650ltr tank. Its only been in use for 4 months. In this time i have replaced the resin 3 times and replaced all three pre filters. I reguarly flush the system first and run it through the Ro without going through the DI for an hour before i fill up as this was suggestted by Andrew at purefreedom, as he felt the little use of my Ro can make it under peform thus depleting the resin quickly.

My tap reading is 332 and after the Ro is between 21-28. The problem is after the third fill the reading after the DI has risen to 7 already.

Any further advice would be appreciated as to how i could possible make the resin last longer.

Thanks Rob

just one thing, when i posted pics like you i was informed that my pump was the wrong way round, looks like youve done this too, not that this would effect your water in anyway, just saves you from damagin it, apparntly  ;)

What's your pure/waste ratio?

I've a 300gpd in at 375 out at 009/012 and tiny resin chamber bringing it to 000.

But mine is static.
It's a game of three halves!

Is that your DI vessel that the blue pipe fits in to?

If it is it isnt a 15 ltr one. I have the same set up running into a static tank. With your readings you are doing OK on resin use I reckon.

If I got a bigger DI vessel or added a second one would this help out ?  The DI I thought was a 15ltr, Ill have to look into that 1.

Malc

The Ro out was initially at 10 when I first installed the system, Ill check the waste later on. My mate and I brought our systems at the same time and his readings are better and his resin lasts a lot longer. The systems are both the same.

by the looks of it, it looks more like it could hold 2 ltr  not 15.

as the calculation is (20000/TDS) X Ltr (someone check that)  if it was 2Ltr and your average TDS was 25 you would get 1600 Ltrs before it started to rise.

Not sure if a TDS after RO of 25 really justifies using 2x DI.  Of course it would drop costs in the long run.  But it might be better to either carry on as you are replacing the resin in the DI every three fills, or if that is too much bother, go for a bigger DI.

If the resin is in the container feeding from the RO with the blue pipe then its a 700ml, changing this 3 times in 4 months aint that bad to be honest, especially if you turn the RO on/off a lot and dont disconnect the pipe to the Resin initially. It's always best to remove the pipe to resin till the TDS settles down then connect again

john is quite right, don't let the first 2/3 ltrs  of ro water go into the resin, also, your tds from ro is far too high.  Speak to your supplier, TFC membranes like yours should average 98% rejection, your ro tds should be no more than 7 or 8
