Flat Pad Strip Washer Covers
« on: September 25, 2004, 10:42:18 pm »
Is there anyone on the group that has `fashioned` or made their own flat pad strip washer sleeve at all?
I`ve always thought that with a normal `T` bar and sleeve cover only a small proportion of the material
actually comes into contact with the glass itself. I know the Scot Young  company does a type such as this but I have
heard poor reports about them. The `Fed` used to stock them at one time I think.I`m a little surprised that Sorbo Samuleson has`nt come up with something on these lines unless there`s a specific reason for
it.If anyone has perhaps we can swap ideas as to what we`ve each come up with so far via thie `thread`.

Try Ionics - I had a shot of an OTT flat pad assembly which clips on to the channel just a few days ago. Didn't seem too heavy either. It's only the front half of the plastic clip on thingy which has material on it.

Also try stockists of SqueegeeMate by Peter Fogwill - it's quite flat and attaches just under the blade. You can adjust the angle by a small amount, to suit your own way of working, but you soap and blade in the one sweep.

I'm too lazy to try inventing or adapting things for myself, just as well there are Craigs, Peters, and Lewis's on the loose!

What make is that ,is it the Scot Young ? Is does resemble a floor cleaning `doodle bug`
but much smaller( the one I`m writing about ).It is true that windows above a certain size
a flat pad `eats` up the area of glass, thats the intention. They ar`nt much good on say small
cut up georgian panes etc.Personally I think `T` bar strip washers are vastly overated.
`SqueegeeMates` after good usage used on their own do `flat` and `pad` out,but nothing like
what I`m meaning.

Lewis, I know it's Sunday morning, but waken up . . .

Try Ionics - I had a shot of an OTT flat pad assembly

That's OTT / Ionics - I'm sure they've nothing to do with Scot Young. This is the only site I can find for them http://www.syr.co.uk/ maybe they just sell direct to wholesalers.

Oaky Willie, its still Sunday morning and I`ve just knocked up another improved version. This  is
my `open secret`.Ettore Super system swivel handle.Channel cut to lenth and grinded down flat at
the ends to accomadate two unequal ended strap hinges.Perspex backing plate cut to fit an opened
out 18 inch lenth Unger Monsoon strip washer sleeve. The overall area of glass now  being covered
by the material of the strip washer sleeve is  16 inch long and  4 inches wide!! Just like a floor doodle
pad. When ya think about it any size lenth could be made,I`ve just got other things to do.It does look
like a professional version for its worth.

I know from previous posts they you don't have a digital camera. Will you be bringing one along to Windex to show us what you've done?

To save any copyright issues, if you go over to the Carpex side and let me have a quick squint it should be OK. The carpet cleaning boys won't have a clue what it'll be.   ;)

Won`t be going to Carpex or Windex.I`ve got the pad just attached to the plastic backing plate
with those velcro ties from Woolworths. To make it the finished article although it is `home spun`,
it needs velcro sewing to the strip cover and adhesive velcroing to the back plate. Its a job perhaps
for a tailor or seamstress. The difficult part I found was getting suitable strap hinges to make the whole
thing work so to speak.Got them from the R.S. trade counter ( http://rswww.com ) and they are an import made in France it said on the packet.A Wagtail handle also makes into a nice one too with that
added twist and variation.

It`s not inventing, its trying to improve and modify whats already there, because in this `thread`
as I put forward before, strip washers leave a lot to be desired. It`s a bit like cutting out box type
profiles in your squeegee channels before ya `dog ear em`.When will the manufactueres get to it
I wonder.????

If you see the new line in floor sweepers for picking up lint with a changeable pad on tiles, I think this is what your looking for!
