Perfect setup domestic vs commercial?
« on: June 19, 2007, 04:55:15 pm »
 Hi All

I need a bit of help on my setup,

Basically I have a LWB transit that I use for my commercial work, we use 100m and a 30m hose per man. we get to a job lift out the hose reels connect them to outside connectors on the van for water feed from tank and away we go.

when we have finished or need to move van we disconnect the hose's and bang we lose loads of water from the water inside the hose as it doesn't back wash to tank beacause of the variflow. Also it's a pain lifting the reels in and out the van, I know some of you guy's have reels mounted inside your van but I can't do that as that means leaving the doors open and quite often the van is out of site so thats not going to work.

We have now started to convert from commercial to houses and finding the above problem even worse as we would be making 20 or so set up and tear downs wear on commercial we would only may have two?

In a nut shell

how do you domestic guy's work with setup and tear down?do you all lift the hoses in and out?

Aslo you guy's with fixed hoses how do you cope when you can't park in the right position to pull off the back of the van ie you need to pull from back of van to frontwards how does that work?

Ideally what I would like is some kind of reel mounted just inside the back doors of the van that can be pulled 360 degrees away from van and still be able to lock the doors? as this would mean I wouldn't have to disconnect the hose to move jobs or whatver saving loads of time water and effot.

Thanks all

Rob

We have van mounted reels and they work really well
as for the pulling off the hose to the front of the van ,If you are parked the wrong way on some jobs its a pain ,
But we do use the slip'n'slide hose pipe guide and have found that to be a great help,
Available from varitech, cleaning spot ,cleantec , the window cleaning warehouse,
And sureclean systems

one good thing about the van mount reels is that they are allways charged and ready to go

 Hope this helps

Trademark, have a look at this http://www.baudoin.nl/content_nl/pag2_06.php about half way dpwn the page there is a van and the reel is placed in the van and the hose end goes through a hole in the van floor to the outside....perhaps this might help?

Cheers
Dave.

Van roof. This solves the back wash issue.

andy we have had a lot of trouble in the past when running the hose out whilst the reel is connected to the van, the plastic male connedtor on the side of the reel wears out very quickly, we have bought metal hoselock stop connectors to push onto the reel but cannot find metal "male connectors" to fit a hoselock hosereel, do you not get this problem??

My van as 2 fixed reels in.

I felt the weight of a hose reel with 50mtr 1/2" hose on when I first looked into wfp. I decided their and then Fixed was the way to go.

After 18 months of wfp I would never ever consider a hose reel that is not fixed in the van.

The pros, Your hose reel will never fall over if you think your Lewis Hamilton on the corners or braking late.

You will not make your Back worse then it allready is by lugging them in and out of the van.

They dont leak water all over the van floor.

You dont waste water.

Your reels will never fall over whilst pulling out the hose on the job.

You can reel hose in far faster because its fixed, which will save time over a day allowing you to earn more money.

The reel being fixed higher in the van then on the floor means once again its better for the back.

Security. I use Micro bore hose so when I have pulled out enough hose i pick up my poles and close the doors and blip the remote to lock all the doors. The flow rate is still the same but I suppose it depends on the make of the van and how much gap you get under your rear doors. Fiat Ducato No problem.

For me I have never had a problem with parking and pointing in the right direction. On some cul de sacs I am there for 2 to 3 hours without moving the van. Its not an issue for me.

You will find that the connectors wear out because of friction caused by the reel spinning.

If you apply vaseline to the connector it will stop this problem.

You can get the male connector in brass, but after a short time you will have the same problem because there is a small rubber ring on the connector which wears out.

Make sure that all the connetor on the outside of the van are stop connetors, the hose reel connectors should also be stop connectors, this will stop the waste of water.
